So just to be 100% certain before I drop $100 on a new video card, ANY ATI 5xxx series will support HD Audio? I like this one:
but I wanna be 100% that this will do the trick before I pull the trigger on it.
September 7, 2010 at 10:40 pm #27536Yes, it will work just fine. I just hope you don’t need to use the slot next to it 🙂
I just ordered the HIS HD 5570 Silence card. It was the fastest low profile card I could find. Planning on trying out FF XIV.

Problem is, now that I will have a card that supports bit-streaming HD audio via HDMI, I am going to be very tempted to pick up that new AVR I was trying to avoid buying.
There’s a giant thread over at AVSForums troubleshooting issues. Most of them seem to be now resolved as the drivers have matured.
September 8, 2010 at 1:46 pm #27537So by bitstreaming you mean you can get full HD Audio off of the HDMI? Instead of having to purchase a Xonar?
Please do let us know how it performs.
September 8, 2010 at 1:56 pm #27538Yeah, my HD Fury 2 came in the mail yesterday but I haven’t messed with that yet since I don’t have the video card yet to make it worth while.
@Navlia – I’ll take a look at card, I do like the idea of it being passively cooled.

I guess I should review it. Hadn’t actually occurred to me. I was excited about doing a little gaming again 🙂
September 8, 2010 at 3:45 pm #27540Naylia,
Why did you get the video card? We got your Intel G45 onboard graphics working fine. Was it only because you wanted some gaming?
September 8, 2010 at 6:55 pm #27541Yup, gonna give FF XIV a spin.
September 8, 2010 at 9:01 pm #27542As I understand FF XIV is pretty heavy on the graphics card.
September 8, 2010 at 9:23 pm #27543Yeah, the 5570 was pretty much toward the bottom of what is acceptable in a 5000 series card but should be fine for 1280×720.
September 9, 2010 at 3:55 pm #27544The GDDR5 5570 cards approach the 5670 in speed. Most are still using GDDR3 though.
September 9, 2010 at 5:22 pm #27545Yeah, I don’t see anything low profile either with DDR5
September 9, 2010 at 5:34 pm #27546Quick question about video cards…if my PC uses DDR2 memmory (RAM) and i put in a Video Card with 1gb of DDR3…will that 1gb of DDR3 actually work/process at DDR3 speeds or will it be used as a DDr2 1gig….
I am fairly certain that the Graphics card memory and the system memory have few if any ties. The memory on your graphics card specifically interfaces with the Graphics Processing Unit while the system memory interfaces with the Central Processing Unit.
Not necessiarily apples and oranges, but different boats at least.
