    ok here goes.

I’m looking to set up a HTPC with 3 DirectTV HD boxes using 3 Hauppauge HD PVR’s in Windows Media Center 7.

    in short

DirectTV box >>>> Hauppauge HD PVR\\\\
DirectTV box >>>> Hauppauge HD PVR>>>>>>> Windows Media Center
DirectTV box >>>> Hauppauge HD PVR////

my big question is I want to know if it’s possible to use the 3 HD PVR’s IR emitter on the 3 DirectTV boxes.

if you have set up something similar I’d love to hear about it! 🙂

No, because the HD-PVR drivers only support using a single emitter.  You have to get a USB-UIRT

You might want to try the USB->Serial channel changer for DTV.  I think the Hauppauge added support for external dlls in the 7MC driver.

Well the native 7MC drivers are still limited to a single HD-PVR (that is being worked on) so you’ll need to go DVBLink and either the serial channel changer (would be my preference) or USB-UIRT.

so in theory it’s possible with usb-uirt? how would i set that up if i ordered it?

In theory with DVBLink yes you could get this working.  I recommend trying out the “USB->Serial channel changer for DTV” that babgvant recommended though for 3 systems that would be more expensive than a USB-UIRT.
