Note: This is completely unsolicited by Mike or anyone else with the power to make something happen at MR; rather this is solely from myself as an MR patron.  But, who knows what might happen, right?

With Mike taking over the reigns here at MR, I thought I’d open up a little discussion about what people might like to see here on MR.  I’m sure we’ve all seen the tremendous uptick in news being posted and I’m ecstatic to see that.  News and the front page itself definitely brings people to the site to begin with.

What else are people interested in seeing on MR?  I have a few comments and ideas to start this off:

1.  More reviews
I know these take time, supporting vendors, and skill, so I’m not asking for a huge influx.  I’d just like to see reviews on some frequency.  Perhaps a goal of 1 per month?  Of course, the question is, what do people want to see reviewed?  (Feel free to respond to this one below.)  I mentioned a while back that I’d like to see in-depth reviews of certain aspects of software, so that an article isn’t 50 pages long in order to review SageTV.  For example, take XBMC, SageTV, and MythTV and compare the Movie Library feature of each.

2.  Recurring columns
This could be by MR staff and/or guests.  For example, I’d love to read more of Lothar’s doings in the Linux/MythTV world, even though I’m not a Linux guy.  Perhaps invite someone like MeInMaui (SageMC master) or PLUCKYHD (Sage Movie Wall) to do something every so often.  I mentioned this next item in another thread.  What about a point/counterpoint column (like FoxNews’ Crossfire), where two people come in with opposing views and discuss a single or multiple topics.  I’ll even volunteer to participate, since I love to debate and can usually take any side.

3.  Podcast
I’d like to see an MR podcast every once in a while.  It could include or even BE one of the columns mentioned in #2.  How about Mike and I duking it out over the SageTV UI or Lothar going toe-to-toe with someone about MythTV?  If this happened once a month, I’m sure that there would be enough content to last for 30 minutes.  I think the key is to make it interesting and funny, rather than 2 people simply rehashing the news (i.e.  snoozefest).

I’m curious to read what people are interested in regarding the HTPC world, so chime in.
