I have a Windows Home Server running a AMD tricore with 2gb of ram and my HTPC is a AMD 620 quad with 2gb of ram.

I store everything on my WHS, TV, music….

I plan on getting either the 4 channel Ceton tuner, or the 3 channel SD tuner (vaporware?).

I have 2 XBOXs now and plan on getting a 3rd or 4th for use as extenders.

I have ordered 2x2Gb 1066 of RAM for my gaming rig and this leaves me with 2x2gb of 800 to put in the PCs from above.

Should I distribute it evenly between the two boxes or would I get a better benefit of sticking it in one or the other.

If I was on the next version of WHS would that make a difference in where I put the RAM.

If you have a valid reason for putting the RAM into the XBOX, go for it.  From what I’ve read, though, this only comes in handy if you’re running emulators on it and I don’t know that the memory is compatible.

If you were really asking about the computers (which I think you were), then the question is whether you’ve seen any slowdowns which seem to be memory-related.  If not, then considering that WHS v2 (Vail) will be 64-bit, I’d probably put the RAM into the WHS box.  2GB for a server doesn’t seem like much to me and you’re going to be adding to the load on it.

Also, while I’m sure you know this, but I want to just put it out there that you shouldn’t mix different speeds in a single computer.  Not sure if that will play any role or not.

I won’t be mixing speeds and I always try to stick with the same brand until I skip a generation.

One slow down I see is when I try to go to the music library on the 360. It seems to take a minute or two to create the library and is actually unresponsive while it is fetching the covers and metadata.

Also Netflix is very slow on the HTPC also. Yet it is pretty responsive on the 360.

And photos can be a little unresponsive on the HTPC also. If I am playing a slideshow and rating them sometimes the rating goes to the next photo. Then if I hit the arrow back button there is a brief pause. Also hitting info there is brief pause. Not to the point of frustrating as much as I would expect it to be faster with all these indexes being used by the various parts of the system (WHS and the Local HTPC)

The entire network is all gigabit and once everything syncs up it works without lag. So I guess I’ll just split the 2 sticks between the 2 systems and bring them both up to 4Gig.
