I think my mobo is dead…

Recently I upgraded my CPU from a AMD X2 3800+ to a X2 4600+. Initially after changing out the cpu, the mobo would not post. After going through the manual I changed the “Clear NVRAM” value to yes and the board posted on subsequent reboots and worked properly thereafter.

Now comes the problem: I was getting errors when Windows update was trying to update .NET 2.0 & 3.0 so I tried get them to upgrade properly. Somehow while doing this I jacked up “My Movies”, which uses the .NET Framework, so I tried using system restore. This created several duplicate folders and I still couldn’t get .NET to update properly.

At this point, as much as I didn’t want to do this, I decided it was time for a clean install. My OS is on a 50GB partition so I wouldn’t lose any of my recordings, music or dvd backups. I stuck in my Ultimate Boot CD and rebooted. I was looking for the format tools and must’ve started the wrong program (I can’t remember which one now…). After I exited and rebooted, all I got was the PSU, System & CPU fans and the power lights on the front panel. The optical drive also started, but I got no post beeps and a black screen.

I tried pulling the power & battery, then holding down the CMOS reset button for about 30 seconds, but no go. Next, I removed my motherboard from the case, and only installed my CPU, CPU fan, and one stick of memory in slot 1, still nothing. The only other thing I’ve tried, was to move the memory stick around to different slots to see if it would post, but that didn’t work either. I read about cleaning the CPU socket and DIMM slots with isopropyl alcohol, but I haven’t tried yet.

I’d like to get this mobo working again because of the recent upgrade in RAM and CPU. If I can’t get this working, this will be my opportunity to upgrade my system to handle HDM.

    Any suggestions…
