Basically 7 very short pages of information anyone here should already know.
TiVo – easy to setup, works with cablecard
MythTV – hard to setup, customizable, way more features/options
for me it comes down to this:
For TiVo to compete with Myth on functionality you would need to use it in parallel with an HTPC, or possibly an xbox360, or maybe someday a PS3.
For Myth to compete with the TiVo S3 on encrypted HD service you will need to wait till hell freezes over or download all available HD programming from alt.binaries.hdtv
I opted for the TiVo/PS3 option, but still use the HTPC in the bedroom.
