Just my 2 cents: I set up a NAS for my home network using FreeNAS about 6 months ago and its has worked flawlessly (used an old Duron 900 MHz processor on a MSI MB with 2 Seagate 160 Gb hard drives). I use it to back up my household computers (using Acronis TrueImage) and store pictures/videos. XP has no problem seeing it on the network. The only downside is you can’t see disk capacity remaining from Windows due to its file system.
