So, after my odometer stopped working 3 years ago at 184k miles I thought that I may have to one day replace my little Nissan. After 3 years of continued driving with only oil changes and minimal maintenance the car has finally decided to give up the ghost. (I am uncertain how many miles the car actually has, but I would estimate around 220+)
I spoke to my mechanic and he informs me the cost to repair the car is $750. Current trade in value for the car (if it were running) is $700. Private Party value for a running version would be around 1500. /sigh
This being the case, my wife and I have decided to purchase a play car. We hope to only spend $14k at most. We think we may like a convertible, but most definitely we like sporty. We tried a wrangler this weekend and were unimpressed for the price.
Thus far we have narrowed out very little, but the wife likes the idea of a panoramic sunroof in the Mini S. I also have decided that the car WILL be a manual. Preferably <60k miles. And other than that we are not really set.
That being said, any suggestions? Or comments about vehicles not to purchase?

RX8 is up in the air. (Although these dont appear to be in the price range I would like.)
