I just managed to catch a clearance special at Target last night on the Olevia 242tfhd model. Brand new for $700 out the door. Now I’m starting to second guess myself ::)
First, I didn’t realize that they had filed bankruptcy. I hadn’t planned on being able to buy a new TV until around Christmas, but the price was right at what I have managed to save so far. This is going to replace an old 27″ Sanyo SDTV, connected to a SageTV HD Extender. Most of what we watch is still SDTV (or downloaded TV episodes). We don’t have an HD-DVD or Blueray player (no PS3 or XBOX360).
Should I expect to be happy with the PQ for the price? Should I be concerned about the state of the company in reguards to the warranty (I didn’t purchase the extra 3-year warranty from Target as I’ve never purchased a store warranty in my life). I’m sure a lot of people would recommend waiting for BF, but I hate dealing with the lines and people during those sales, and if you really want something like a TV on sale it almost requires you be willing to camp out at the store to be one of the first ones in line. Heck, I may not even be home during the holiday….
Anyone with Olevia sets got any advice for me? Anyone with other brands want to chime in? I don’t ever see myself spending more than about $1000 on a TV and I’m looking for a minimum of 42″. We generally watch maybe 2-3 hours of TV a night (thus the reason for not spending a ton of money on a TV), mostly consisting of network TV or Sci-Fi.
