I wouldn’t leave a computer without an antivirus especially on a windows machine. I do agree that norton and macafee are hogs and i wouldn’t want to pay every year for updates. It’s called a two part tariff in economics. but anyways i have a laptop and have used avast and avg and they don’t take up much resources. theres also nod 32 which is good on resources.
