I don’t think Plasma is going anywhere. Panasonic makes the 2nd best (now the best with Pioneer’s exit) PDP’s around and plasma is certainly the high end movie viewer’s choice for deep black levels (you have to spend upwards of $8k on an local dimming LED backlit LCD TV to get to Plasma levels) and properties such as off angle performance.
Samsung and LG are also still actively making PDP panels:
