I believe that the scythe mini ninja was 115mm high, so I think that is the upper limit. of course, its no longer available.
I am not using a very hot chip (athlon II x4 420), nor am I doing anything extensive on the htpc (decoding an x264 file that can’t be handled by the ATI onboard video is probably the toughest) but it is in a pretty poor situation thermally (tivo on top, sides of entertainment center are fairly close) so the fan on the stock cooler keeps kicking up to 4500rpm and its annoying.
I am using smartfan to reduce the fan speed at the moment, but that is a terrible long-term solution since i haven’t figured out how to let it kick the fan speed up to max if the temps get too high. also, if you can help me with that, I’d appreciate it in the near term.
