Hopefully this is an easy basic question that someone savvy can answer.
My receiver has a single digital input source (fiber & coax, but don’t think I can use both without going deep into a setup menu to select the digital source option). Currently my DVD player occupies this input.
I want to build a HTPC, with the intent to have it front-end multiple surround sound sources: DVD/HD DVD/Blu Ray, Cable/network broadcasts in 5.1 (looking at a PVR-500 as a tuner until I go HD video), PC games, and gaming consoles. I want the output to feed the digital input of the receiver.
Is this a practical expectation, or should I be thinking about upgrading my receiver to one that supports multiple digital sources for at least the HTPC and the gaming consoles?
Also, will the Haupauge PCR-500 be able to pass thru the 5.1 signals to the receiver? The plan is to have 1 direct cable feed from the street to 1 tuner, and the output of the cable box to the other tuner for “premium” channels.
Thanks for any input!
