Now that I own a 1080p display device (Vizio VU42LF HDTV) ;D , my expanded video playground is begging me to explore all kinds of really cool stuff regarding video/audio sources and achieving a cinema quality presentation n my den. First off I have been duncing around with the basic cable company’s RF/coaxial source coming out of the jack in the wall and the best video i seem to get is 480i which looks “shadowy” to me and sometimes jaggy. It took monoprice.com all of 2 days to mail me my $22-15′ flat HDMI cable so I am heading home to finally hook my HTPC (8300igp) to my1080p Vizio to see what happens when i drop in a standard DVD (maybe Lord of the Rings or Planet Earth).
From what I can gather from this informative thread at geekzone, the best resolution i am gonna get from a standard DVD source is 480p (or should that be 480i?)

Anyways, I’m zoning out here at work surfing and getting smart about source and display resolutions waiting til I get to go home and hook this HDMI cable up. As usual, i found myself over at wiki when I searched google.com and typed in 3:2pulldown.

From the looks of it, i can now set my sights on acquiring a true 1080p source and in the meantime I need to learn as much about telecine as I can to understand what’s happening when I am playing lessor source quality material on my 1080p display. Thanks for the thread space, it’s helpful to have a place like missingremote.com to post to . thoughts and links welcome.
