    Doesn’t MythTV already do this?  (Sorry, Lothar… couldn’t resist!)  ;D

    The Harmony remotes (at least, I know the 880 and 890 do) have the phone lettering on them, so I wonder if you’d be able to program those to work similarly to a phone.  The question would be how to get the OS to interpret them correctly.  Girder might be able to facilitate this, but I don’t think anything else would be able to.

    As to whether this is actually useful?  Personally, I don’t see the need.  Either I’m watching TV in Sage or I’m using the computer itself, browsing or something.  One I’d be using the remote, the other I’d be using the keyboard.  I wouldn’t be online and able to receive IM’s if I was using the remote, so I don’t see the issue.  But, that’s just how I do things…  maybe I’m the oddball.  🙂
