Well since I got called out, I guess I’d better respond 😉
Seriously though, this article wasn’t too far off. I agree with a lot of the points. Even if ironically, many points boil down to “women are too stupid to use the device as it is so we have to dumb it down for them”. Sexist, but sadly for a lot of women, it’s true… they just want something to work without them having to bother with it. And there’s a lot more involved in that than just making something pink and cute. In the grand scheme of things however, electronics for [i]both[/i] sexes are becoming increasingly easier to manage. And for wide acceptance of gadgets, that’s necessary. It shouldn’t be about gender… this should be the case for all devices to appeal to everyone. And since I’m a designer, I’m also interested in the aesthetics of these devices. The concept of hiding ugly electronics is quite appealing. As it is I’ve changed my own thoughts on the HTPC in my living room and plan to eventually replace it with an extender so I can keep the PC back in the office/den where it belongs (and doesn’t look unsightly).
