Sorry if this is a redundant conversation, but it seemed that many of the threads on this were kind of old.
I have Comcast cable coming into the house. I also have an HD antenna on top of the house. I have a slew of tuners lying around the house in a number of machines
PVR-150
PVR-150
PVR-250
Fusion 5 Lite (OTA)
Fusion USB (OTA)
Fusion USB (OTA)
Despite the inventory of tuners I can’t seem to be happy.
– My OTA sucks, can’t tune CBS or WGN (i’m in chicago)
– One Fusion USB flaked out, I think and the other one is unreliable
– The PVR-250 is not being recognized as 2 tuners, just one
– Whether I use the 150/250 through a cable box or direct in, the recordings have issues where if I fast forward once, the show freezes later, rendering the skippin ahead feature useless.
– I just got a comcast DVR so my wife can record her shows and call them if she has problems instead of blaming me.
I just want this stupid thing to work right. I’m willing to spend the $$ to get something just just works. So my question is kind of forward looking. Which of the coming technologies will work best?
– HD Homerun – I know this is not new, but am unfamilar with how it works. Seems like I can plug either the Comcast feed or OTA into either tuner and be ok. Does QAM work through the standard Comcast feed? I.e. it doesn’t limit one tuner to just SD and then QAM to another. I’m ignorant how this thing works. Can you use more than one? I’d love to drop the OTA signal because, well mine is bad.
– New Hauppauge HD PVR – this one confuses me. Is the HD capture just the unencrypted QAM? If so, why is it 250 bucks? Can it record encrypted QAM? I’m ingorant as to why people seemed to be pumped about this one. Also, even if it can record encrypted QAM, won’t M$ vista block you?
– DirectTV Tuners – I know that MCE is going beta soon for support on a DTV tuner and pics are floating around. Is this thing going to allow you to record whatever you want? The only thing that I don’t like about sat is that the signal can be affected by weather.
Your help on these subjects is appreciated.
