I’ve looked over several threads about tuner cards, but am still confused.
I’m running SageTV (Ver 6.x – soon to be Ver 6.3 this weekend), an currently have 2 Hauppage tuners (PVR-150 and 250). All my shows are recorded locally to one of 2-250GB harddrives in the HTPC.
I’m going to be upgrading my HTPC soon to the following:
Gigabyte – GA-MA69GN-S2H mATX mobo
AMD AM2 5000+ Black Edition CPU
2 GB PC2-6400 RAM
1 – 250GB HDD (removing 1 HDD from current setup to place into a server)
LG Dual HD/BluRay DVD drive (so I can watch both formats)
Since the new mobo ONLY has 2 PCI slots, I’d like to upgrade (eventually) the tuners to include the ability to record SD as well as HDTV from my cable provider (Charter Cable). What tuner(s) should I get? I thinking a tuner card that allows for dual analog recording for my main recording, and then a second tuner card for the HDTV. suggestions, please….
Another question about HDTV tuning (for some reason I cannot keep this straight in my head) – If I do HDTV recording from my cable TV box I’ll need an IR blaster (or something like it), and the cable box will be controlled by the HTPC. OR will using QAM tuning allow me to bypass the cable box and record (non-premium like HBO or Showtime)?
