I recent had a bit too much to think and the subject was updating my sound for the HTPC.
I currently have 5.1 computer speakers setup (Creative or Logitech, not in front of me as I type this) through the onboard sound card. I also have an old Sony A/V receiver in mothballs ( I am aware of the Digital to Analog USB pigtails made for computer to stereo hook-up).
I don’t really need (want) a receiver, just an amplifier would do, hence my search revealed a USB amplifier made by Simplifi (and it does 5.1 sound as well). I also found a JVC receiver that has a USB (and optical) connection.
I am curious if anyone is using or knows of anyone using a USB amplifier and how it compares to using a SPDIF connection.
