OK I have an older CRT 4×3 HDTV set (please try to hold back your snickering) Previously I used MCE 2005 and have been using component in to my set (again try to refrain from laughing)
I used to use powerstrip to get total control of my resolutions, and was able to have a 1280×960 resolution in a 1080i timing wiht no overscan and barely any underscan at all.
Well with Vista I cant use powerstrip it locks the system up hard. So I tried to use the resolutions that the card manufacturers provide. I can get one that is close, but still has overscan (cant see task bar or edges of the screen…. yet can see the top fine… go figure) anyway….
I tried to say ok so I’ll just have to deal with it and try to use the built in overscan compensation that VMC has. so I tried it. sure enough nothing was overscanned in vista MCE…. but I noticed something odd. The colors seemed to change and the entire screen felt more shakey and jittery. When I closed out of VMC I noticed text was not legible now… as if VMC had messed with the timings some. So I changed resolutions and changed back and things were fine again. But as soon as I load VMC it changes back and it just looks weird and un natural.
So what all is going on here when you use this display optimization wizard in Vista MCE? Is there anyway to just enable overscan compensation without the rest going weird on me?
