I’m looking for a replacement motherboard for my bedroom HTPC. The catch is that the bedroom TV is old and only has composite input. I’ve been using the popular in its day Asus M2NPV-VM, but it is dying. First, the USB controller stopped working and I had to buy a PCI USB card. Now, it gets that hot electronics smell after a while and gets unstable even when running open air.
As a replacement, I would ideally like to find another of these boards used so that I might be able to do a simple swap-out without redoing the OS. So, anybody have one of these laying around and willing to part with it for a reasonable price?
Alternatively, I would be interested in an affordable solution that includes either a mobo with composite out or support for Asus’s TV module (like the M2NPV-VM) or an inexpensive mobo + video card combo. Obviously, I don’t need a lot of video processing power as this set-up is SD only. Noise is a concern as well as card height, so passive half-height cards only.
Lastly, this set-up will only be used until I replace the bedroom TV with a flat-panel, so price is a major factor.
