Will you be using something like Hauppauge Colossus or AVerMedia AVerTV USB HD DVR? Those both report themselves as “Digital Cable” devices within WMC.

You have a choice with SD tuners to choose STB or Cable setup. You can have both if you like.

What is so onerous about having a SFF HTPC? Once it is set up, what are you finding that you have to do besides use it?

Clicking is not good. Sounds like time for another RMA.

Unfortunately, we recently discovered that an error caused the following item( s ) to be displayed at an incorrect price:

            HighPoint RocketRAID 2782 PCI-e X16 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s RAID Controller

In this case, we’re unable to offer this item for the incorrectly posted price. Therefore, we’ve cancelled your order for this item.

It looks great. I am glad it worked out for you. It appears that you might still be able to remove and install memory w/o removing the cooler. You can put the stick in at an angle up to a point.

in reply to: No. Copy Once content only #5438
              Aaron Ledger

No. Copy Once content only allows the device that originally made the copy (recording) to play back the copy.

The reason you might transfer to a server is because you would rather store them there.

in reply to: It depends on what your goals #5428
                Aaron Ledger

It depends on what your goals are and whether the server or client is better equipped to handle the process.

If you want to scan for commercials while recording, you’ll want to do it on the client. If you would like to offload due to resource issues on the client, that is a good reason to have the server do it.

                  Aaron Ledger

I can also get speeds of 800 MBps+ when transferring to WHS 2011 over GigE without even using jumbo frames. Speeds are dependent on a lot of factors such as drive speeds (they get slower if files are fragmented and depending where data is physically located) and other system activities.

It is certainly possible you have a switch issue. What type of NICs are in your server and client?

Have you tried bypassing the switch (direct connect between client and server) for troubleshooting purposes to verify that the switch is the issue?

                        Aaron Ledger

I have no experience with either product. If you plan on streaming Blu-ray, Wireless-N is a must and even then, I’m not sure you’ll get the best result.

What exactly is it that you need the HP ProCurve to do for you? It looks like a great switch and obviously geared toward advanced use cases when management capabilities are needed.

                            Aaron Ledger

Remember, pre-install drivers are only used for windows installations when Windows doesn’t have the proper driver not once Windows is up and running. Make sure that you first go into the BIOS and verify the GSATA ports are enabled as AHCI. Then, connect your recording drive to one of those ports. It is possible Gigabyte uses the MS Standard AHCI driver for this controller.

                              Aaron Ledger

Check your dimensions and take a look at something Scythe Big Shuriken or Shuriken.

Yes, OEM HSF is small and thus noisier than many higher performance offerings. Due to heatsink construction, the fan must spin faster to reach an appropriate cooling level which causes more noise.

                                Aaron Ledger

What controller are your drives on? Your board has two IIRC: Intel and Gigabyte. Try moving your recording drive to a SATA port on the controller you are not using and see if that makes any difference. Also, make sure you have the Gigabyte controller driver installed. I know you have installed RST and motherboard inf so your Intel controller should be covered.
