Before you think about replacing your switch, you should hook your server directly to your HTPC and see if the problem still occurs.
Have you tried monitoring performance activity on the server while play back ensues?
swoonIs the stuttering intermittent or always present on Blu-ray playback?
Spec-wise, that switch is pretty decent. Some of the smaller consumer-grade switches only have in the neighborhood of 100-150kb per port memory.
Do you have multiple reads and/or writes hitting the EARS drive at the same time?
swoonJust keep in mind that if you utilize multiple audio output types from Windows, you will need to manually switch between them which can be a pain.
swoonIs the issue with your existing configuration that there is more than one remote?
If that is the case, a universal remote could solve your problem using your existing speakers and AVR. I have a Logitech Harmony One with the volume controls mapped to the AVR.
swoonDefinitely sounds like a cable or cable to port interface issue. No need to apologize for your Denon. I just replaced a 3300
swoonThere are a lot of options for you. Do you have a budget in mind? You can do anything from a full-blown surround configuration using an audio-video receiver (AVR) to some inexpensive amplified speakers.
If you don’t want an AVR or surround speaker configuration, you might be a good candidate for a sound bar.
swoonOkay. It was hard to reconcile 6392 to R2.62 that Realtek states on their site.
I suppose it’s just the way the driver is right now. It would be worthwhile contacting Intel support to see what they say.
swoonRegarding setting of port speed manually, please only do this or consider this if you know exactly what you are doing.
swoonI just received the keyboard. My first impression of it is positive. I love the size. It’s not too big, but it’s big enough to be useful. It’s small enough to stash in a lot of places and it can look at home in a living room if it is left sitting in the open.
I can’t wait to try it out.
swoonTry the drivers direct from Realtek and see what happens.
swoonYou probably do have the latest driver from Realtek installed, but if not, give that a try.
swoonBetter hurry before it goes out of stock!
swoonBased on what you have said, I think your best value is to get a Core i3 with an Intel H67 Media Series motherboard (like the DH67BLB3 board that Andrew reviewed). The reason for this recommendation is that the i3 graphics will fulfill your requirements and an Intel Media Series board will have an Intel NIC.
If you are happy with your C2D system, there is no reason why you can’t keep it.
swoonCan you elaborate a bit more on the server functionality you require? Is it just to store and serve video to serve to the living room client and bedroom client (which you also want to be the server)?
Will the bedroom and living room clients both be accessing content simultaneously?
You mention the C2D system that you have in your living room and wanting to stick with DDR2 RAM, are you considering upgrading your living room HTPC? Is the system satisfactory for your current requirements?
It sounds as though you might be using WMC considering you have an Xbox 360, is that correct?
swoonIt looks like it only works with compatible LG displays so buyer beware.
