Samsung’s playback is workable (DLNA or local USB media) if it supports all of the file types in use, you just have to read the manual and make sure before purchase.

That’s the thing. Usually support is limited to a very narrow set of codecs and containers (or combination thereof) so if you venture much beyond mp3/mp4/mov it’s not useful.

Rolling back to the 11.4 drivers as you recommended before has greatly improved and gotten rid of all my previous issues.

Exactly 🙂 There’s something horribly wrong when you get stuck at a specific driver rev. I had the same thing happen the last time I used an AMD GPU in my main HTPC. Any rev past a certain point was borked, but the one I was running wasn’t perfect either.
babgvantKeymasterI’d get a GT430 or GT440. AMD’s hardware is good, but the drivers are very sketchy.
babgvantKeymasterI’m not sure you’ll be able to get full music/video playback capabilities natively on a TV (except maybe the LGs with PLEX). Most are very limited in the codecs and files systems (important since FAT32 doesn’t support large files) they support.
Personally, I’d get an S series Panasonic and add a low-end media streamer.

Still looking for recommendations on the best approach for codecs before I booger up my system? As mentioned before, all I really need is live TV, Xvid for avi files, and MKV support. Thanks for any suggestions.

Install the LAV Filters, should include everything you need.
babgvantKeymasterI can’t guarantee that it will fix this problem, but I use one and it definitely makes the experience easier and more CE like.
babgvantKeymasterI’ve never experienced 7MC crashes when the EDID goes away (what happens when you turn off the TV/AVR that is connected), but it is not uncommon to see weirdness with any FSE (full screen exclusive) application is open and the display “disappears”.
babgvantKeymasterThe HDMI Detective is probably the best solution. Otherwise you can use StandbyHelper as a workaround.
babgvantKeymasterFWIW, I’ve been running one in the Wesena ITX7 for a couple weeks. It gets warm (~55-60C) enough that you can notice the increase when touching the case, but I’ve never seen it go over the 65C mark.

So lately I’ve been getting a lot of issues with my HTPC which I’m starting to believe is due to codec issues. Not sure how these problems arose, it’s been fine for a while and I haven’t changed anything, but anyway I’m getting frequent crashing, especially when playing video, COM Surrogate errors, etc.
Can you explain in more detail what the issues are specifically? Generally I don’t recommend installing codec packs (which despite Josh’s assertions to the contrary, Shark007 is) so I do think that a more specific approach to resolving codec issues (if this is a codec issue) is warranted.

I have errors all over the place, is there a way to stop DVRMS toolbox from autostarting on startup, seems I’m getting a lot of crashes due to DVRMS and I want to turn it off to see if that is the problem.
You mean PC crashes or application crashes? That error can be ignored, and IIRC won’t get logged on recent builds of DTB.
To keep the FW from auto starting either set the service to manual or delete the shortcut from the startup folder depending on which FW you’re using.
babgvantKeymasterNice!

I checked the info on the Intel site and noted the following:
Discrete graphics support for PCI Express* 2.0 x16 add-in graphics card
Sadly, I suspect this means that you can ONLY use a graphics card in the PCI-e slot.
x1 PCIe tuners should work with the DH67CF; I’ve tested several (Ceton/HVR-2250/Duet/Colossus). It’s possible that the cards are doing something that the board doesn’t expect (there were issues w/ early BIOS revs and Hauppauge cards), so I’d contact support and see if they can help. LMK how that goes.
babgvantKeymasterGet a Harmony. Makes controlling everything, especially if you have more than two components much easier.
babgvantKeymasterYes, you can use a Dune or PCH “extender” to play BDMV or M2TS files. FWIW, I reviewed a BD Prime a while back and am working on a Smart H1 right now and have been very happy with the results.
BDMV is the whole movie unless you reauthor it. I usually just pull the main M2TS out of the BDMV because I don’t want the menu, previews, etc. but if you want to remux that to remove unwanted content you can.
