I guess it’s not surprising. I’ve had mixed results in the past with WU drivers so I always get them from the manufacturer now.
I never use WU drivers. Even the notifications are jacked up, they often push an outdated driver overtop a newer one that I’ve installed manually.
If you are running Intel HW they offer RSS feeds for the specific components, it’s the best low effort way to stay up to date.
babgvantKeymasterDo you have SP1 installed?

It has been a couple weeks. For other reasons I decided to do a reformat and re-install of the OS. I thought I would evaluate for a little to make sure any video issues were not related. Still the same issues. It appears Dynamic Range periodically switches from my setting of FULL back to LIMITED. All I do is flick the Dynamic Range on/off off and on again and all is good.
So, I understand about setting the registry value you supplied. This will permanently set this value to full regardless of what I have in the CCC?
No, changing Dynamic Range still affects luminance, but as you’ve observed it’s not a stable feature. With it disabled the driver uses Full (which is broken, but that’s another topic) the NominalRange setting just tells MC that the content has been expanded.

As for PQ, I appreciate the thoughts on turning them all off. I have been playing with all the settings trying to understand their effects. Since my beginning with MC years ago I have always been trying to achieve the same PQ as a cable or satellite set top box. Sadly, not successful yet. Granted I will never get a 42″ plasma image on my 73″ DLP, but I know it has been better with STBs in past. Colors more vivid and sharper image.

I don’t recommend turning them ALL off, just the ones that blow out the colors (Dynamic Contrast, Flesh Tone Correction, Brighter Whites, etc.). DI is essential and so is SOME noise reduction (NR), but when it comes to NR the defaults are way too aggressive for my tastes so I dial it back significantly.
If you’re looking for a more vivid picture you may want to leave the settings that create unrealistic colors alone, that’s why they are there.
babgvantKeymasterIt tells the MC EVR presenter to set 0-255 instead of 16-235 on the samples. This is a consistent issue with AMD’s GPU drivers.
FWIW, I like to turn off most of their VPP. The defaults blow out the colors and perform way to much NR; it’s great for HQV, but in practice it looks over processed.

babgvantKeymasterHave you tried setting NominalRange (dword) = 1 @ HKLMSOFTWAREDebugehPresenter.dll (or download and run this reg file)?
babgvantKeymasterFWIW I’m really happy with my Intel 510. It’s not as fast as the Sandforce 3 drives, but it has been really stable and reliable. I’ve had some issues with a couple Corsair (Sandforce 2) drives in the past so I’m hesitant to buy more of those, but I did just pick up a Agility 3 to play with so I can let you know where that ends up in a few months.
babgvantKeymasterWhy the “RANT”? I don’t think there are any institutional barriers to sharing the tuners with other devices. Technically any device that supports UPnP and RTP can use a DCT.
babgvantKeymasterYep, the xml files must be in a folder accessible and known to DTB on both PCs. On the client only the addin is required, but to make configuration easier you’ll want to install the full DTB package there too.
babgvantKeymaster
the short answer is
that although i get the xml, txt,VIH files in the same folder as the WTV shows when i stream them to my HTPC thet dont auto skip
To solve that one, you’ll need to open up SA’s config tool and configure it to only write DTB XML files (live to the xml file location). Every other type should be disabled. If your PC is setup to share public folders you just need to configure the client PCs to use the CommericalsXML folder on the main box, if it’s not share the folder first then setup the client.

do you have an updated step by step setup i can review for accuracy of my current setup
I don’t, but I think Mike did a write up a while back.
babgvantKeymaster1) what’s the specific issue?
2) I’m not sure it’s a good idea to run SA from a VM across the network.

OK, cancel your order and get the 8GB G.Skill from Newegg for $40 with a 4GB Flash drive!
That pesky Newegg. My 8GB already shipped!

Done!
babgvantKeymasterCrap! OOS – I could have used that 🙁
babgvantKeymasterI wouldn’t move it with the stand attached. It’s not really designed to take the lateral torque that can get applied in the back of a truck. My wife found a special box for large screen TVs for a reasonable price. I’ll ask her where she found it and reply back.
babgvantKeymasterUnless you are doing more than light gaming there’s no need for a dGPU. Also, the nice thing about going IPG w/ a decent CPU first is that in a year or two if there’s a need for more GPU you can throw a discrete card in for $30-60.
