In ffdshow make sure that all of the DD (AC3, E-AC3, True HD, MLP) and DTS variants are enabled, then in the output uncheck all of the “Pass-through” options.

You’ll need to dl the MPC-HC standalone filters.  The application compiles the filters into the exe.

Yeah the MS Audio decoder should have a lower merit.  What version of the MPC splitters (the one in AntiPack is outdated) and ffdshow do you have?  If you disable bitstreaming in the filter can you connect and playback decoded PCM?

Try using the EVR instead of “Video Renderer”.  Perf will suck with the default VR, it doesn’t support DXVA2.

I’m not sure what the optimal graph would look like, but I was able to find the right settings in SageTV to make it do precisely what Graph Studio is doing.  I copied the file locally and it played exactly the same, so it’s not the network.  I also played it in VLC (granted, that’s only DTS) and it played okay.

Best place to start is with the MPC-HC standalone filters + ffdshow.  There are source and decoder filters for pretty much everything.

Also, might be worth seeing what the graph looks like when you drop the file into graphstudio.

Sounds like a video codec issue, but if the files aren’t local it could also be the network.

Can you repro the problem in GraphStudio if you build the optimal graph yourself?

I think you mentioned that the VFD had green text earlier.  So as long as the shades of green are the same I think green is a fine color – just don’t make it too bright.

I finally broke down after much hair pulling and purchased a Gefen HDMI Detective.  Once installed, all of my issues went away.

Before buying an HDMI detective see if CEC is enabled on your AVR.  I used to have this issue all the time with my 4650 and enabling CEC “fixed” it.

I haven’t had it with CEC on or off with my i5, but I also built the HDMION into the macro that turns the TV on/off (HDMION logic fires when the display turns off and again when it turns on).

I guess I will uninstall both the GeForce & Catalyst drivers, clear out all the ATI references in the GAC and then clear the ATI listings out of the registry before trying to reinstall the Catalyst again.  Is there a topic or a website that lists the steps for enabling HD Audio in TMT3 or in Catalyst?  That was the root issue that caused me to try to upgrade the driver.  After everything was setup and working I didn’t know what to do next.  TMT3 had a setting under Audio, something like “use primary audio” which I assumed would be the HD feed but like I said, the Onyko display only listed DD or DTS.

It’s possible that you might need to do an EDID override with the Onyko.

I’m comparing the core track to the lossless track.  With DTS the core is actually part of the lossless.   With Dolby True HD the lossy track is a separate track.

That is somewhat dependent on how you define track, but that’s a different topic…

I compared both by switching between the HDMI port and the Toslink port on the receiver.  The player output over both at the same time and I just needed to switch inputs.  Video was by component and HDMI which also output at the same time.

I’ve never tried to replicate that scenario so I can’t speak to it directly, but with PC players (like PDVD) you can select the bit streaming mode over HDMI and I have to disagree with your results.

Also, with many newer releases including 7.1 lossless tracks I’m pretty sure the lossly track is limited to 6.1 channels but is usually 5.1.

In my tests I can’t tell a difference on a Onkyo 875 and Axiom Audio m60, vp100, qs8 system.  My speakers are revealing of problems with the audio, and I can’t tell any quality difference whatsoever.  And I did these tests using the same encode of the audio, switching between the core track and the HD track on both DTS and DD.

Are creating a new lossly version from the lossless track or comparing the stock core stream against the lossless one?
