Yeah, I thought so too– I was always under the “2GB per Extender” mindset until I slapped that 3rd box in and fired them all up for this first time.  I’ll be adding two more at Christmas (hopefully one of the new XBox8s).  I’m alreadying assuming I’ll need to upgrade memory to do it though.

I think the guidence is 512MB/extender, but my recollection could be fuzzy 🙂

I will be going with the Intel Core i5-3570K cpu for my HTPC server.

Would the Intel DZ77BH-55K ATX motherboard be a good choice for a headless server running as a Windows Media Center server with lots of harddrives ?

How many hard drives? Will you overclock/underclock the CPU? The DH77KC is $70 less, but you give up 2x 6Gbps SATA ports and fireware.

I uninstalled the codecs last night and still had bouncing audio.  Through trial and error I found that the LAV codecs are the most efficient and use the least CPU with smooth playback.

I use LAV on my WMC, but it’s important to tame it since it will break WTV (SBE) playback (especially Live TV). Get a copy of GraphStudioNext (or GraphStudio) that matches your platform (x86/x64) and run it with administrative privileges. Browse for a filter and see if LAV Audio is installed, if it is lower the merit to a sane value (or maybe even do not use to troubleshoot) then reboot.

To my best knowledge the HDMI audio driver loaded with CCC.  I’m not sure how to browse my system to find a potential alternate driver, but when I remove the item from device manager Win always automatically rediscovers the current driver.

I had the same issue with the Llano system reviewed earlier. You need to explicitly set the AMD HDMI Audio driver in Device Manager using the method below (sorry don’t have an AMD system handy).

            1.  I am using Shark007 for MKV playback.  I uninstalled them and still have bouncing audio.
Might want to check to make sure that you don’t have ffdshow or LAV Audio installed. I have seen a similar issue with LAV Audio. It is not suitable for WTV playback with the SBE source, but often joins the graph anyway.

FWIW, you don’t need to install Shark007 to get MKV working. You only need LAV, then make a few tweaks – I’ll try to make the time to document the process this week.

            2.  The drivers state that they are from Realtek so I am assuming they are correct.

I’m pretty sure it should be the “ATI HDMI” one, you should be able to swap them in Device Manager (reinstalling it probably won’t work).

Do you have any 3rd party CODECs installed? If so, it’s possible that they are joining the graph and causing problems. Also, make sure that you have the correct ATI HDMI audio driver installed. Their drivers are Reltek based so I’ve seen issues where the wrong one gets selected.

The next rev will have better support for storing the XML files in the same folder.

You can put the xml files either in the same place as the wtv or in a central location (like Aaron mentioned).

Every channel or just specific ones?

Your MoCA adapter should support creating custom encryption keys. Why not use an insanely complex key and skip the filter?

I would also be in the market if I had a closer viewing distance and large display area e.g. closer than 9′ distance with a 65″ or greater display.
I think this is the key for 4K (large display + proper viewing distance). I would love to have a 75″ PDP (crossing my fingers for CES :)), but at that size I suspect that a 1080p resolution would be an issue at that size unless you are really far away.

Content will come, the ecosystem for delivery just needs a little more development and a few years to get there.

Most people sit too far away or have displays too small to take advantage of the increased pixel count; 4K is not a tech that makes sense on a 50″ TV. That said, if you want a big display and are going to watch it from a reasonable distance it is very worth it. Yes, the CE industry is trying to sell you new kit (that’s why they exist), but this is no different than the upward trend (480->720->1080->3D) in resolution and display capability. There were plenty of naysayers for that too.

At some point in the future 4K will make sense for large displays, but my understanding is that it’s best to wait until the HDMI spec is changed and devices can support > 4K@24Hz (4K@48, 4K@60Hz, etc.) formats before even considering it.

Sorry, missed your post. Potplayer is very similar to MPC-HC, except that it offers a slightly eaiser OOTB experience.

AFAIK, disc based (i.e. encrypted) BD playback is only supported by ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre, CyberLink PowerDVD, Corel WinDVD and Nero. Of the four options the first two are the best, although TBF I’ve never tried Nero.

I always have to “fix” (by eye of course :)) the TV when we stay at hotels. Drives me crazy otherwise.

I have not tried another HDMI cable.  I am using the same one that was working fine when on Comcast.  I have some others to try.  I will report back.

It’s quite possible that the shows were flagged differently on Comcast.

If you’re not running the latest GPU drivers try an update if swapping cables doesn’t help.
