Radical suggestion – sell the 7.1 system and get a decent mid-range AVR and speakers.
babgvantKeymasterIs the eject button in the middle of the ODD?
babgvantKeymasterI think it looks great. Only niggle is the blue USB port on the front. Would be nice if it wasn’t so blue or maybe behind a door of some type.
What’s a micro atx PSU?

I was under the impression there was only a single HD4000 Core i3 and it may not be released retail.

AFAIK, IVB i3s won’t be out until Q3 ’12. You probably have better insight into the specifics; I haven’t seen much beyond rumor.
There will be a 65W i5 w/ HD4000 mid-June – probably going to pick one up 🙂
babgvantKeymasterIf you’re looking at IVB, wait a few weeks. There will be more suitable HTPC IPG w/ HD4000.
I generally recommend Intel Media Series motherboards because they have Intel NICs (instead of the Realteks found on most other OEMs) and are usually very stable.
babgvantKeymasterDo you happen to know the dB level of the 40mm fan?
babgvantKeymasterI think the LAV Splitter (part of LAV Filters) includes support for WTV files w/o installing TV pack.

I had tried that but when the pc restarted, a window would popup requiring my choosing run to allow the program to start.

After downloading the zip file, right click on it, select properties and select “Unblock”.
Windows will preserve the untrusted nature of a file if you don’t and continue to prompt even after it’s extracted from the file.
babgvantKeymasterOnce you get to a certain point with building Goldberg machines switching over to DTB profiles/actions is usually the most effective way to get things done. There’s very little that it can’t do, but as you note the learning curve can be a bit prohibitive.
If you outline all of the steps in your workflow concisely I can help create a profile for you.
babgvantKeymasterIncorporate the service start/stop in your script.
“net stop dtbfwservice”
copy files
“net start dtbfwservice”

After doing this. I noticed that the automatic file/directory watching no longer works for commercial skipping.
What about it doesn’t work?
Recent versions of the DTB FW will examine files in watch directories for missing commercial span definitions (edl or xml depending on config). If they are missing it will queue up the files for processing. I know of at least one user who does something similar to what you’re attempting that stops the FW service before moving files then starts it again afterwards.
babgvantKeymasterIf you can get cable where you’re moving, you will be able to use a DCT (like the Ceton card) with it.
babgvantKeymasterI think part of the problem is that the PSU is pulling air out of the case so there isn’t any pressure build up. If you have a 120MM PSU, it might be worth a shot to install that w/ the fan facing down then use both 80mm as intakes. This should cause air to exhaust out the vents over the CPU. If that doesn’t help you could also try pulling out the PCIe shield next to the card so air has an easy place to exit the case.
Another option is to build a PCIe slot cooler (I’m not aware of any low profile one you can buy). The easiest way to do that is to cut a 60mm hole in some cardboard and screw a fan to it, then use some double sided foam tape to attach it to a PCIe bracket and aim it at the tuner.
babgvantKeymasterWhat kind of temps are you seeing? If they are too high, I’d try to add a little bit of active cooling that pulls air across the board before using a heatsink.

I forgot to ask about commercial detection/skipping. Are there WMC addons that allow use of tools like commercialskip? Are there any problems implementing it with potentially DRM flagged content?
Yes to both questions. It isn’t possible to scan files with DRM currently.
