The Alien anthology is such a mixed bag that it’s difficult to pick them all as a group. The original Alien was among the best Sci-Fi horror/suspense thrillers ever made. Aliens was probably one of the best sequels ever made and was more of an action movie than a horror flick, thanks to James Cameron at the helm. The audience already knew what to expect from the little beasties so it was just a matter of who was going to kick who’s ass and when. The remaining two Alien movies aren’t even worth mentioning and actually diminish the quality of the first two when bundled together. The first two will always be at the forefront of my favorite all-time movies.
Back to the Future was fun, but I wouldn’t sit through the entire showing more than once or twice. I’ve seen both Alien and Aliens more times than I can count and I’d watch them both again in a heartbeat. I can probably count the number of movies I can say that about on one hand.

MC wasn’t allowing me to use separate tuners for each recording until I added the 10-minute overlap. What was strange is that my default record settings add 3- minutes before the show when possible, but when I changed the end time to 10 minutes after it also increased the before padding to 10 minutes. It fixed my tuner issue but now it uses up a lot more hard drive space for the same number of shows. Three minutes is more than ample overlap to account for slight schedule overruns in most cases.

My wife and I just saw it earlier this evening and now I understand where it came from.

I’m using PDVD 10 to play BD iso’s and it’s worked flawlessly for me in Media Center. I get HD audio playback via HDMI and one-touch playback using mikinho’s automount utility with VirtualCloneDrive. I’ve also got full transport controls using my Media Center remote. I had used TMT 2.5 (?) with my Asus Xonar HDAV 1.3 sound card but I can’t say it really gave me more of a warm fuzzy than PDVD 8 Ultra that I had also been using.

The show was a major letdown after seeing what Shatner could do on Boston Legal. Nothing he does could ever top Denny Crain. His latest is the type of show that you’ll either love or hate, depending on your personal tastes. I view most sitcoms with a grain of salt as the writing generally tends to be forced in a vain attempt at providing something only meagerly humorous. It’s darn near impossible to come up with something new and fresh these days in the way of TV programming. After about 55+ years of TV viewing, there’s very little I haven’t seen before on network TV. It’s one of the main reasons why I like the cable shows better. They’re not locked into the same restraints that the FCC imposes on the major networks. They’re also not as quick to drop the axe on a show because of poor ratings.
Of the five shows mentioned, The Defenders is the only one I’m still watching. I actually liked the pilot of Hawaii Five-O, but I already had far too many shows being recorded so I had to make some cuts to regain what semblance of a life I have left. I cut Blue Bloods for the same reason. That plus I have been limiting the number of cop shows I watch as they are mostly just a rehash of the same old crap with a slightly different twist. The same goes for doctor and lawyer shows.
The funny thing is, once I stop watching a show, it isn’t usually all that long before it gets canceled. OTOH, a lot of shows that are quite good get dropped after only a few shows because the network execs get nervous if the ratings aren’t as expected. It just shows me that the general public is more intetested in crap programming than a show that’s of a higher quality than they’re used to.

Aside from up-to-date special effects, the show pretty much parallels the original series. There’s a good reason why it got cancelled the first time around and this one is following right in it’s footsteps. Shows about alien invasions have never lasted for more than a few seasons, at best. For some reason Hollywood thinks they’re a good idea and keeps trying to air them, usually with the same end result. I thought “Invasion” was among the best of the genre and it only lasted one season.

How is it that I keep missing these polls? They must be posted somewhere on the site that I don’t frequent because I’m here in the forums several times a day.
I’ve used both TMT and PDVD and can’t really say I have a preference. I just want a program that allows me to play back Blu-Ray rips with HD audio, and both programs do that equally well. I’m currently using PDVD 10 and it integrates seamlessly into Win 7 MC. I understand that TMT3 does this as well. I previously used the version of TMT that came with my Asus HDAV 1.3 sound card but I hear that TMT3 has more features and a new user interface. It was a nice program but I can’t say it was any better than PDVD for my intended purposes.
PDVD 10 allows me to gain access to all of the controls and settings that suit my needs and I can operate the program like a standalone DVD player with my MC remote. As long as the program does what I need I don’t really care which one it is. During playback, the program should be invisible to the viewer so realistically you should never be able to tell which one is being used.
