It reminded me as much of The Incredibles as the FF.  I just hope they don’t make him wear Spandex.  OTOH, Julie B. would look great.

Western Digital has a line of AV drives that are specifically designed for DVR use.  They’re only slightly more expensive than their standard drives so it might be worth a look.

I had a pair of 2250’s in my HTPC for a short while and they didn’t perform as well as the external V-Box USB tuners I was using just prior to that.  I have since switched to four HP USB tuners (rebadged HVR-950Q’s) and they are the best I’ve tried so far.

Anyone else watching “Better With You”? Saw the first two and found it quite funny

I haven’t seen it mainly because I tend to avoid sitcoms in general.  I usually check out preliminary reviews from various sites like The Futon Critic to see how the pilot screenings went.  If the reports aren’t overly enthusiastic I don’t bother with them.  I honestly don’t recall what was said about Better With You.

One of the latest new shows I watched was “No Ordinary Family.”  I guess Michael Chiklis like playing The Thing so much in the Fantastic Four movies that he opted for the same role sans the bad skin condition.  I was a comic book geek in my younger days so I’ll probably watch this one and see how it goes.  Heck, I’ll watch anything that has Julie Benz as a main character.  Based on the track records of past programs that tried to emulate the superhero genre, I don’t expect it to last all that long.  However, with the early time slot I can see it gathering a younger audience

I liked The Good Guys during the summer and it probably did well enough in the ratings that Fox thought it would work for them in the fall lineup.  Problem is, most summer shows on the major networks weren’t aired the previous fall for the simple reason that they weren’t good enough to stack up against the competition.  I like the show but I’m not all that surprised by the ratings.  There are just too many other shows to watch that are better.

I watched the pilot episode of LoneStar but haven’t gotten to the 2nd episode yet.  I liked it and was planning to stick with it a while longer but it appears that Fox has already made the decision for me.

I love Fringe but the whole alternate universe scenario may be too much of a stretch for most audiences to handle.  I was liking the weirdness of the original premise and I think they could have stretched that out for a good while longer before jumping universes.

The Whole Truth is well done and has great acting but it’s a clone of every other courtroom drama ever produced.  I dropped it from my lineup after the 1st show.

Detroit 1-8-7 (if you’re going to diss a show at least get the title right) takes a slightly different slant on cop shows and the inclusion of Michael Imperioli should be helping the ratings better than it has.  If they decide to cancel it I hope they do it soon so I can free up another 42 minutes for other things like watching shows that aren’t getting canceled.

I dropped Chuck from my list before the season started mainly because I had to make some cuts and the show really hasn’t done all that much to make me want to stick around.  It’s pretty much run its course.

I never really got into Community.  I wanted to like it and watched about the first 4 or 5 episodes but it never really interested me enough to continue watching it.  It had humorous moments but was a bit too lukewarm for my tastes.

I also like Outlaw but can’t tell if it’s going to survive.  Hispanic actors don’t tend to do all that well when placed in the lead role for some reason, except maybe for Battlestar Galactica and Edward James Olmos.

Medium is another show I dropped this season.  I mainly watched it because my wife liked it but she seems to have lost interest in anything even mildly entertaining.  After several seasons of solving crimes based on premonitions and dreams you’d think the District Attorney and his staff would finally take note of something Allison has to say with a lot less skepticism.

Odd as it may sound, I actually look forward to some shows that I watch to be canceled.  I watch far more TV than the average human and actually look forward to times when shows air reruns so I have time to enjoy life.  Sometimes it sucks being addicted to TV.

This sounds just like in the early DVD days when there was the DVD Standard and the DIVX (not the media player) format.  The DIVX format was cheaper up front, but then you had to pay each time you played the disc, or a large charge to get unlimited plays.  Disney was all for this format because they could rake in the $$$ from the kids that wanted to watch a movie 1,000,000,000,000,000 times.

With DIVX you could pay for each viewing or purchase the disc outright for unlimited views.  It required special DVD players to play the discs and they were only available from Circuit City, IIRC.  Both DIVX and CC (retail stores, that is) are no longer around so it must have been a great success. ::)  Greed is not always good.

God I hate HD bitstreaming.  I wish it would just go away.

Why anyone would spend an extra $250 plus all the setup headaches to get bitstreaming is beyond me.  That same person would probably pair that bitstreaming setup with a small $1000 satellite speaker system thinking they got great sound out of it.  LPCM is right there absolutely free.   ::)  If you want bitstreaming over LPCM because you must have completely untouched audio then you had better have $3000 worth of speaker and $800 worth of amp or more with perfectly placed speakers and exact calibration.

The same reason there are so many people into high end audio when the vast majority of the population is happy with their Bose Lifestyle systems.  We want the best sound possible.  I guess I qualify because my surround system far exceeds your minimum requirements. ;D

because it is confusing for users and completely unnecessary for 99.99% of of the population.  It is thought by many people as the only way to get HD audio to your speakers but that is not true at all.

In fact, I found bitstreaming to be quite simple to set up and get working with very little effort.  I was originally using an Asus HDAV 1.3 sound card and then switched to an ATi HD 5670 graphics card for bitstreaming HD audio.  Neither setup required more than a couple of settings to select the HDMI output for the primary sound device and one or two playback apps.  It’s nowhere near as confusing as you make it out to be.

Yes it does.  Especially when you consider that in that same time frame the budget theaters that show movies at the end of their theatrical run will let you in for only a buck or two and won’t make you take out a 2nd mortgage to buy a soda and some popcorn.
