OK, there are so many wrong opinions here, LOL. I liked Alien vs. Predator, and I’ve never seen any of the other Alien movies or Predator movies. Second, I agree with the Back to the Future choice. I mean, you HAVE to pick that. Once in a while the mood hits me, and I’ll watch BttF from the server.
I use PowerDVD 9, and I have been pretty pleased recently. It’s been as stable as a standalone player (or as stable as I guess a standalone player would be, since I don’t own one). Early on I had problems with PowerDVD, and early on I had problems with TMT. I don’t use TMT much; lately I’ve actually used it only to play mkv’s. I can’t really say how stable TMT is for playing bluray. I get the feeling that PowerDVD is the “Microsoft” of bluray software. I don’t get that so much on this forum, but around the web and other forums it seems it’s not “cool” to use PowerDVD and TMT is more of an “anti-establishment” player, LOL.

Wouldn’t setting the master to 0 be mute? If I am connected via optical should I have the master audio set to 0, e.g. in Media Center would the icon in the top right be at 0 or mute and the amp would control the volume.
It doesn’t matter what the level is in Media Center when using digital out. The actual volume of the sound is going to be the same regardless of the number Media Center displays. Unless you do hit the mute button, then of course the sound will mute.

It’s true about the power supply. I have a Seasonic in my HTPC and an Antec in my main PC; I have to get right up beside them to hear them running.

I’ve never had Dish, but I always assumed it was there (in Media Center’s setup). But why would this be just an issue when using the HD-PVR?
Why would there be weak signals in a component signal? I think that would drive me crazy.
I guess a lot of you are more “power users” than me. I don’t even use Media Center to change the channel of my satellite box. I either change it myself or I set the box to autotune. But most of what I record are ATSC.

Unless you’ve got a serious HT install it would be really hard to match the theater.
I don’t have a “serious” home theater…just a Yamaha receiver, 5 speakers, and a Klipsch 12″ 300 watt subwoofer, but it is much better than any of the theaters I go to. The theaters just don’t have any surround sound and very little bass. I mean, I can hear explosions at the theater but it’s not deep; I don’t feel it like I do at home. And the surrounds are just too subtle for me in the theater; that is if I hear anything at all. The coolest surround effect that I can remember hearing in the theater was in X-Men (or part 2, not sure) when Wolverine was walking around the mansion and Professor X called to him through telepathy and you heard, “Logan”, discretely in each surround.

I believe in the past I have ran into that problem, too. It seems as though I can remember doing it in WordPad and then copying and pasting into the reply box, just as suggested. But it’s been a while since I’ve seen that happen, and I believe it only happened to me at work.

Hadn’t checked in a while, but last time I did there was no solution. I tried the syncing thing too, but it didn’t help me.
