I’m definitely a Mythtv user.  Have been for 6(?) years.  I think I started with 0.18.1 or maybe it was 0.17.

But how long does it take for the movie to start playing in Media Center (or the PC in general)?  Mine has to go through the testing connection, which usually doesn’t take that long, and then it has to go through the buffering, which does take several minutes.  The PS3 doesn’t seem to do any buffering at the beginning because when I push play, it says “retrieving”, and it only takes a few seconds before I’m actually watching the movie.

I stream via Netflix’s website.  I get the testing connection screen for a couple seconds then buffering for maybe half a minute (I’ll try to check that this evening) before the movie starts.  And I’m on a ~1.5Mbps connection.  Not super-highspeed.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for titles to watch please let me know.  Especially if they’re available via streaming.  I’ll take suggestions for both myself and my wife if there are any that she may want to see.  I want to take advantage of my trial as much as I can!

I just heard this morning that Apple may be looking to purchase Netflix,  has anyone else ran across this news?

I’d heard this rumor a couple of times also recently.  I don’t know how legitimate it might be though.  I’m not holding my breath.

As far as bandwidth/quality goes I have my laptop connected to a 1080p LCD with a ~1.5Mbps internet connection on a good day and for the first 30 seconds or so the feed is rather blocky but after that everything is very clear as long as there isn’t a lot of motion, such as a screen pan.  I can’t say that it wouldn’t be better if I had a faster connection, but since I’ve never seen what it could be I’m quite happy with what it is.  When we signed up for the trial I mentioned to my wife that we should consider increasing our bandwidth for the trial period but she wanted to see what it would look like using what we’ve got.  Now I’m glad we did.  I am very satisfied with it.

One other thing to note, when we were signing up for the trial my wife entered in some coupon code or something and she said there was also an option for a $4.99 plan that included 1 DVD and 2 hours of streaming (per month I think).  Maybe useful for those that just want to have the one DVD and view the streaming time as a bonus that they may or may not use…  I didn’t see it when I went back for a screen cap though so consider it unverified and I don’t know if it is a plan that might be generally available at some point either.

I currently have a dual-boot windows partition with Cyberlink’s PowerDVD loaded just for watching Blu-Rays with.  However, as soon as the next version of Mythtv is release I plan to change my vote to “Other” as it will be gaining native support and I won’t need that Windows partition for anything anymore.  🙂

I’m glad I got my vote in 1st.  It was nice to see Mythtv at 100% for at least a little while.  🙂  If there are people out there that feel the site might be Sage-centric (and see I saw the clarification) then obviously I need to push my propaganda harder.  :p

I’ll have to try LinHES again, but the last time that I tried it I couldn’t get it to install…  I’ll check out Arch as well.  Gentoo too.  🙂
