  • in reply to: Primary HTPC Software Results and New Poll! #28249

There are news readers and there are forum posters. I tend to come most for answers to my issues and see what other issue people are running into. I check the home page every couple days but was the post only on the side or was it listed as news in addition to being on the side. I don’t pay much attention to the side bar. And I did find the Newegg ad but it is kind of buried. I’d suggest a link up top to take us to a page listing all the vendors.

As far as news items and polls how hard would it be to get a daily dump of links in an email. And/or is there an RSS feed? I have Dailytech’s feed setup in outlook so I can see new items as they come in.

    lol, no worries Sik!

btw…anyone else amused that 2 of our most avid forum members, Meester and Jennyfur both missed the poll?!?!

okok, so no excuses…everyone knows there’s a new Blu-ray poll on the homepage now, right? 🙂

I usually go to a link that takes me unread posts since last visit, then if there is a thread discussing an article that sounds interesting I follow the original article link. Yesterday I was looking for the newegg link so I could click through and order my new NIC. I never found it. It was then I noticed there are no ads in side frames on the forums.

I think lack of availability of the CETON tuners is an issue also. I never saw the poll, put me down for Win7.

Make sure to check the reviews on those Seagate drives so you don’t end up with a rock tumbler in your htpc.

I just bought the 250Gb to replace my old Arcade. The arcade was so freaking loud it drove me nuts. Some game require the HDD to play and if you plan on using it for an media extender I assume you might want to take advantage of other forms of media in the future, e.g. Zune downloads or whatever else might come out. I don’t think the HDD has added any noise. My box sounds the same at startup as it does when playing Halo Reach off the HDD.

    Here is the 4Gb issue,

If you go with th 4Gb you can save ten bucks by going to Dell.

This may already exist but I always thought that a cellular phone that had multi-line capabilities like an office desk phone is just what today’s executive on the go could really need.  Even if it was just a two line model with a personal line and an office line that would be great for those in need rather than call forwarding or similar schemes.

Google voice will give you multi line capabilities. You sign up for it and get your second number and have it pointed to your cell phone number. Then you have two separate number that will both be directed to your cell. Then on the phone you run the Google voice toggle widget before making a call depending on if you want the receiving end to see your cell number or Google voice number on their caller id.

in reply to: Re: Recorded TV skips when played back from WHS. #1202

WHS is up to date, the only add-ins I am running is a WOL add-in and I am using the drive pool.

I’ll try moving the file. I am beginning to think it might be a video issue because blu-ray works fine. Would VLC overwrite a CODEC for wtv files?
