  • It is going to be hard to make software IMO when the media center interface gives me everything I need from an HTPC, watch and record tv and access Netflix. As far as a remote goes the free android app GMote allows me to control the mouse and type. I am sure those types of apps will improve and won’t have the high price tag that the vendors will ask for their implementation.

I don’t see how a surger protector would help with fluctuations, only large spikes.

I agree with Bigee, run a separate circuit and try to choose the leg of the panel with the least amount of high draw appliances. But you would still have to have a surge protector and a conditioner would be icing on the cake. I actually make occasional stops at the office supply stores and have found APC power backups dirt cheap on the clearance rack.  You can run the HTPC off the battery protected outlets and the tv off the surge only.

I expect by Christmas we will start seeing TVs with the new Ethernet inputs. Then I think the manufactures will look into cracking that port.

If it isn’t legal then I don’t expect Hauppauge to come out with a card with an HDMI input . That would be pretty sweet though if they did though.

The only thing I want to affect the state of the PC is the power button (sleep or wake) or the options in the start menu (log off, shut down, restart). I’ll have to try the sleep setting on my HTPC tonight and see if the 360 wakes it.

I tried to set up WOL on my server according to some instructions on here (I believe).  But every time that I would put it to sleep it would immediately wake back up.

I have that problem on my gaming rig. If I put it to sleep it wakes right back up. I have to put it into hibernate. I’ll have to try that lastwake command babgvant posted.

Will 360s wake the headend machine if they request a remote terminal session? I’d love to put my machine into sleep (THat is S3 right) if I knew my machine would wake up for scheduled recordings and when a 360 tries to connect as an extender.

Some shows get cancelled because they get to expensive, sets and actors. I heard Rome was discontinued because the set burnt down and it would be to expensive to rebuild.
