Mike GarcenParticipant@josh – if only we had a writer with one! *HINT HINT*!!! 🙂
Mike GarcenParticipantit’s certainly unique…i don’t dislike it as much as Andrew. I actually like it better than the bookshelf one, if only because it’s so unique and could fit in a number of places. i’m assuming those are vents at the top?

I manually change the channel on my satellite box all the time. Are the newer Hauppauge boxes that are said to be used for recording video games also compatible with TV sources? Meaning, will they work with Media Center?
No, dissapointing but they are not. For whatever reason, who knows why.
Mike GarcenParticipanti use the good old Hauppauge HD-PVR after having a TERRIBLE time with the Avermedia DVR which would frequently lose the signal. The Hauppauge has no stability issues, however, changing channels is a PAINFUL experience. If i know i’m not going to record anything, i actually will jump over to my DirecTV native box to channel change between sporting events.

Well, here we are nearly three years later (daily showers, whirlpool use during the winter months) and the little bathroom “home theater” setup is still cranking. I too am kind of surprised the condensation hasn’t had an effect on the TV. But then, I’m in Phoenix… Many of you probably have more humidity daily than we get in our little bath…

That’s awesome! i’m still jealous!
Mike GarcenParticipantLooks interesting! As a sole-movie user, is there any benefits/features which Colbee offers that isn’t yet avaialble in YAMMM?
Mike GarcenParticipantnice writeup!
Mike GarcenParticipanti saw these prices too, pretty amazing. you have to write up how you like it when you get it!
Mike GarcenParticipantanother out of the box type of suggestion, and actually one that i’m doing on my bedroom where the HDMI blew out, would be to buy an Xbox 360 used (easily should be available at under $100) which supports Component video, and then set it up as your extender.
Of course, Xbox performence as an HTPC is nowhere near as good as native IMHO
Mike GarcenParticipantI used the Sewell one and it worked great.http://missingremote.com/review/sewell-injectir-ir-over-hdmi-remote-extender
Monoprice’s looks half the price and looks similar, and they’re normally pretty good with their brand named products
Mike GarcenParticipantMichael, does this affect users of Ceton’s MyMediaCenter application which has YAMMM built-in?
Mike GarcenParticipantfair points, there are way more options for users today, but count me on the boat of folks still using an HTPC exclusively. in fact, with the help of Mr. Andrew’s suggestion, i recently rebuilt/upgraded mine. The whole process took less than a few hours, and now any weird bugs i had before are long gone (at least as of today).
Technology changes so much on these computers, that as long as you still see a benefit in the usages, an upgrade might be jus tthe ticket. Or maybe u want to start with simply reinstalling your windows installation–especially if yours hasn’t been updated for several years.
Mike GarcenParticipantyes, i’m running 802.11ac, the one annoying thing about the bridge is it only supports 5Ghz, but luckily the range is sufficient for me, so far it works great. It’s disconnected twice but i believe that was due to weak signal and nothing more
Mike GarcenParticipant
I’ve been using the Linksys WET610N for a few years now, and it has been rock solid on the 5Ghz band. I had a few hiccups when I first started with it, but I have been running it for a year and a half now without even so much as a reboot. I liked it so much, I picked up its successor recently, the WUMC710 (supports 802.11ac and has 4 gigabit ethernet ports!). There are a couple on ebay for $80-90 right now.

Picked this one up for cheap (the WUMC710) and it hasn’t disconnected even once!! Thanks for the recommendation!
