Mike GarcenParticipant
My guess is they probably ran a script over the weekend to convert the data and hit a snag. There’s a ton of content over there and stuff happens when you migrate a forum of that size.
But to answer your question, I haven’t heard anything…i’ll ping Pete
Mike GarcenParticipant100% accurate aaron, the license is on the system, not the files.
PLUS, even if you have the OS drive as SSD, you can still configure MCE to record TV to a different drive. That’s how i have mine, 80gb SSD with OS, and 1tb HD for recorded TV alone, and it just records directly there.
Mike GarcenParticipantbut see, that’s just it, The Backup process built into WHS does allow you to select folders besides the OS drive.
Now the downside of this process is you have to use the app to recover the data (so the drive is hidden), so is that just it? You guys like to see your mirrored content?
Mike GarcenParticipanti don’t have WHS2011 yet so bare with me, but back in my old FTP sharing days, Read/Write were very different than “list”
If i gave a folder “List” permissions (default) but didn’t give read/write, they could still see the folder, but couldn’t download
If i took off list, then they wouldn’t even show up. Is there anything like that in the WHS2011 sharing?
if you try to download any of the other files from other folders, does it work?
Mike GarcenParticipantROFL!! you and me both!! So, i can’t tell then, are you for or against this forum of home theater deals? 😛
Mike GarcenParticipantgiven that our very own Mikinho wrote the app, he might be able to help 😛 I’ve never used it though, so yeah… 🙂
Mike GarcenParticipantyeah, i echo the sentiments on why use so many 500gb drives. If you’re buying these brand new, at a minimum they should be 1tb, unless you’re getting some phenomenal deal on the 500’s?
Mike GarcenParticipantmentioned in the podcast but haven’t used it yet, but will Microsoft’s SyncToy work? Only issue is it won’t do file-by-file verification but it does report what doesn’t transfer through. And it’s free

Xbox extenders are also limiting in many scenarios. To name a few, there is no HD Audio support, no Blu-ray drive, limited file format support, Gold required for Netflix/Hulu, limitations on third-party software, etc.
Ditto here. I’ve tried going to the Extender platform SOOO Many times. (SOO MANY) and in the end, i just can’t deal with all the limitations, speed, inability to control VOLUME!!! Argh. For me the platform had SO much potential and just disappoints on every turn.
Mike GarcenParticipantdo you need any actual server functions? System backups? Web hosting? FTP?
It doesn’t seem so, so since you have the flexibility of the rack, i’d say just go big in there–find a nice big case with plenty of airflow, throw a powerful CPU and tons of RAM in there, and then connect all your HD’s and voila.
If you really want some extra speed, RAID is still an option with your HTPC, just be aware of the risks.
Oh, and make sure to take TONS of pics along the way! 😛
Mike GarcenParticipantthe new xboxes tend to be pretty quiet from what i’ve heard (i think mikinho has the newer ones and can comment).
that being said, since you’re looking the route of extenders anyways, why not just go server-based and then use strictly extenders? Or is there some functionality that you would need that the extenders couldn’t do?
Mike GarcenParticipantoh god, not another one i hope!! I’ve gotten like 5 e-mails in the last 2 weeks saying my data was compromised
Mike GarcenParticipantoliverred, and i bet that bad boy still works like a champ huh? I was amazed at how awesome that system was. I too wish i had kept mine, but no way it would’ve survived all my moves

Thanks. I’ve heard the Dinovo is good, but it’s a bit pricey. Although such a universal remote wouldn’t be cheap either. I’ve considerd an iPhone/iTouch solution as well.
It’s come down in price, i’ve seen it often brand new for around $80 (when it started it was $130), maybe cheaper on ebay?
Mikinho had some issues with it since he has kids who like to use remotes as footballs, but i’ve never had an issue. And the trackpad also works as arrows so perfect for MCE control.
Mike GarcenParticipantHrmm….I can’t think of any device that is both a universal remote AND includes a keyboard. If you can live without the extra universal features and just want a remote with MCE functionality and a keyboard, i’ve been a fan of the Logitech Dinovo Mini for a long time.
TiVo does have a remote with a keyboard in it, so i think there are basic universal features there…but not sure how good that can work if there are drivers for PC or not (my guess is not).
Maybe a USB-IR extender and then use an ipad or ipod touch as your remote? Kinda clunky but possible yah?
