Mike GarcenParticipant
we’ll know more when we get to their booth, but you would have to imagine their booth has a cable drop setup to actually display something, right? From the pictures it looks like it’s setup and connected.
the lack of a date is the part that concerns me the most…that along with the lack of any other updates. if they are in production as the thread states, they really should have a concrete date on things….hopefully we’ll learn more soon. We’re trying to find out for you guys.
Thread from TGB from a user who stopped by their booth as well
Mike GarcenParticipantnot much is easier to use than AnyDVD HD. THere is another one i can’t recall the name that I believe is free, but i’ve never used it.
Btw…i didn’t state this before, but even if you compress a Blu-ray file a bit, it’ll still be higher quality than if it was a straight 100% DVD rip. Just more work will be involved.
Mike GarcenParticipantno, even the smallest blu-rays i’ve seen are still in the 20gb range, even if you remove any extras. Of course the size varies, but you have to remember that without any compression, a large portion of that video space is used for audio as well.
If size is an issue, a lot of people have had success compressing their ripped blu-rays into a much more manageable MKV/H.264 file format. Of course understand ANY compression you do you reduce the original quality, so the question is…are you willing to sacrifice quality for storage? Especially given how inexpensive storage is?
Mike GarcenParticipantobvious question first–does netflix via their website work? there used to be a standalone link to the netflix installer. I assume you’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing?

I believe babgvant’s Anti-pack codec pack installs the MPC-HC codecs so that they can be used by other programs. He also has a utility for upping their priority (or has a link to one, it’s been a while since I installed it).
There used to be a guide on this site, hopefully it’s still there.

Way out of date, but FYI: http://www.missingremote.com/blog/antipack-get-your-videos-working-without-destroying-your-pc
Mike GarcenParticipantit looks like that Dell has a 250W PSU, but includes a P4 1.8Ghz, 40gb HDD, and 512MB of RAM. A rough calculation shows approximately 166watts required (not knowing extras or which P4), and assuming your PSU has 80% efficiency (which is not a given), that puts you at about 200Watts…meaning you should EASILY have enough headroom for that card which shouldn’t be more than 8-10watts.
If my numbers are correct 🙂 it won’t hurt to try. if it’s not enough, it just won’t power up!
Mike GarcenParticipantwell that’s good news 🙂 definitely if you can enable HWA, you should see not only a significant improvement in performance but also MUCH lower CPU usage (shockingly in fact)
let us know…
Mike GarcenParticipantassuming you do virtualize that many sessions, how would you plan on getting each one to its own TV? and also, how would you use any controlling device besides a keyboard/mouse to control JUST that window?
I’m not sure if it’s *technically* feasible, but man that sounds like an *AWFUL* lot of work. Let me ask this–is TV important? As in, are you planning on using the Tuner functions of the MCE system?
and btw, do u mean run a WHS virtual server or a standalone? just asking as it wasn’t clear
Mike GarcenParticipantcan almost guarantee that 8300 card is your problem. I think something like the GT430 should work MUCH better since i believe it can do hardware accelleration for most of your content (Andrew would know).
For your audio disappearing issue, have you ensured you have hte latest drivers for your motherboard? The GT430 should resolve that as well since you would be using the HDMI with audio in that card.
Mike GarcenParticipantHere’s a guide, while outdated it’ll show you what you’re looking for: http://www.missingremote.com/guide/atscntsc-tuner-guide
There are plenty of cards out there for what you’re looking for (A Combo Card), which you can honestly get for pretty cheap from Ebay, depending how much you want to spend. Unfortunately i don’t have any experience with any of them.
Mike GarcenParticipantThe older ATI Digital Cable Tuner devices, which supported single stream CableCARD actually contained both an analog and digital tuners inside them. I believe the new CETON tuners are strictly digital, as is the HDHomeRun.
That was the very unique part about the ATI, however as they’re no longer made you’ll have to rely on ebay to get one, usually along the $100-150 range, and they make an internal and external version.
Mike GarcenParticipantThink about it this way, even if you went through your computer, you were going to need another “box” that could accept the game console. So at least this way, you get more functionality as well.
Mike GarcenParticipantso what you’re asking is technically feasible, but not going to be worth the effort. You could get something like the HD-PVR, and go component video in, but from what i’ve read about people trying this there’s often been a lag between the game and video which prevents it from being optimal.
You could probably find an inexpensive or used amplifier or receiver which your existing speakers could connect to and that would make your life much easier.
Mike GarcenParticipanthow’s the new arrangement look? 🙂
Mike GarcenParticipantno chance you have another HDMI display that you could try, huh? I’m literally out of guesses. I want to say it’s drivers, but the lack of bootup image is what makes me wonder.
any new BIOS for your mobo?
