Have you tried a highly directional antenna?
Or, MoCA if you’re on the same node and there aren’t filters on the lines :).

Mr. Van Til, let me thank you for your kind response and allow me to address your points.
1. Directional Antenna – i don’t think signal strength is the issue, when the belkin products connect they are at full 5 bars (as is my laptop, which never drops it)
2. MoCA which i love, i’m afraid is not an option, the back house is a totally different structure
That Linksys looks pretty awesome and good reviews, i might just give that a try if nobody has a better recommendation
Mike GarcenParticipantthank you sir. okay, so i don’t think that’s it, there’s only one other device on channel 11 which is where i’m running…and signal % is 70%, which is significantly higher than anything else being scanned.

The laptop might handle errors better than the bridge you were using and be less prone to thinking it lost the connection.

okay, i’ll give it a shot! what tool do you recommend to test the congestion? (do i sound like a newb or what?!)
Mike GarcenParticipanti thought about that, but if it was interference, wouldn’t my laptop (which is in the same room as the HTPC) be experiencing the same problems?
Mike GarcenParticipantthink you could pass the WAF by convincing her you need a new AVR & speaker setup? That would get you a ton of HDMI inputs, then a simple Harmony remote setup to make everything work together.
Aside from that, I don’t have any personal experience with just basic HDMI switchers, but make sure you get a POWERED one, as I’ve read lots about bad luck with non-powered and HDCP issues. Maybe with an IR-learning remote you can program a script to change inputs as needed?
Mike GarcenParticipantso i thought i would update everyone on this in case others experience the same. Ceton’s support was not very helpful, and i got tired of messing with individual codecs. So much to Andrew’s disappointment i downloaded Shark007 codec pack and voila, everything works again. *sigh*
I utterly hate this solution, but nothing worse than 11pm, trying to play your movie, and only getting audio. At least it works now.
Mike GarcenParticipantNope, WeMo is smart device only, so it will only work from that, there’s no PC client :-/ you don’t have like an iPod Touch or anything?

A lot.. by last count 413… give or take a few.. Yes my movies is a no go.. I might try plex..
[/quote]
gah, i have like 200+ and no problem, but yeah, ur doubling me up. I wonder what the bottleneck is. What happens, it just hangs?
Mike GarcenParticipanthow many movies are we talking here? Have you tried My Movies?
Mike GarcenParticipantwhat do you mean “mostly in the HD channel range.”? does that mean you’re not getting ANY of your HD cable channels?
I would suspect the problem is either A) Not a strong enough signal–how many splitters are you using for your cable? Did the installer measure the signal? or B) The cableCard is not properly activated–have you tried getting another one? Just because the first tech said “i sent the hit signal” does not mean all is right.
I’ve never used the WinTV device, but does it have any diagnostic utilities to see the log of data?
Mike GarcenParticipantno, it’s not dead yet. There seems to be an issue they are working on though. Microsoft is aware of it:
Mike GarcenParticipantyou can purchase a receiver (AVR) that has multiple zones available, and that’s assuming you’re able and willing to run speaker cables to the other room.
if that’s not an option and you have to go wireless, it’s tough to argue with Sonos. Definitely not a cheap solution, but it’s 100% focused on music, and specifically whole home audio.
how was each room planned on being setup?
Mike GarcenParticipantuntil i hear any compelling reason to, my HTPC is staying Win7 for the forseeable future. Just don’t see the point of risking my super stable system for…..what?
Mike GarcenParticipanti’ve been having enough trouble keeping up with football and all the start of my favorites to try a new one, but based on your report i’ll have to give The Neighbors a try!
Mike GarcenParticipanti know it’s not a solution per say, but the way you could do this is via an XBox or other Media Center Extender. I know it’s not your PC, but it’s a way….
