Mike GarcenParticipant
as I see Osborn’s reply, it occurs to me that there was most likely a significant RAM usage difference between the 8 x individual ATI tuners versus what the SiliconDust Prime or Ceton InfinitiTV would use. That’s pretty impressive with just 4GB of RAM, definitely a surprise (pleasant)!
Mike GarcenParticipantI’ll take questions 1 & 3 first, and hopefully someone else will chime in on #2.
So i’ll say this as far as testing and needs. In my previous job with Niveus Media, I tested and confirmed functional with Intel’s Core i7 processor, and 16gb of RAM, 8 extenders. So with that being said, I don’t think Xeon is necessary nor even the best way to go. So that being said, your Core i5 selection would probably do the trick.
Question for you–what percentage of the time will you have all 5 extenders running at the same time? And with what content–HD television only?
For question #3, it really depends on your needs. I’ve always run my living room television with my HTPC directly and used Extenders for the bedroom, but that was due to file limitations as well as the occasional desire to browse the web from the big screen (or to go to a streaming site). But, it is frustrating the few times i do have to force a restart because MCE has hung. SOOOOO….i’d say if the Extender can handle your playback needs 100%, it’s probably the most stable way to go and then totally removes any need for a keyboard.
Mike GarcenParticipantSonos would definitely work, but there are some questions first. Are you looking to just have the same audio played to a different room through speakers (ala party mode)? Or are you trying to merely play audio to another room via the receiver?
Mike GarcenParticipantWOW!! That’s a smoking deal…sheesh!
Mike GarcenParticipantgreat price! if only i had a need for 10 tuners 🙂 somebody buy this!
Mike GarcenParticipantFWIW to the original question, i remember i tried the XBox 360 wireless adapter back in the day, and it was AWWWWWWWWWFUL. No experience with the other…but I’d be shocked if it wasn’t better.
Mike GarcenParticipanti know this isn’t helpful at all, but i was experiencing this as well…my solution was to prevent it from allowing it to go into sleep mode. So i’ll be anxious to hear if anyone has a solution for this

Vitamin D video. Hands down what you want. 1 cam is free, two cams price is $50 for software.
works ggreatt

thanks money, will check it out!
Mike GarcenParticipantagreed, if you can go wired, always go wired. I’ve got a small place, and even with the top of the line Wireless-N Dual Band routers and adapters, every now and then i still will get a stutter that just doesn’t happen when i go hard wired.

There’s plenty of security software out there (some are even free), but if you’re looking for actual integration with WMC, I’m not sure about that aspect. I know a few people did this with SageTV by adding a channel to their EPG with a live feed from their cameras. Again, no clue if that’s even possible with WMC.
nope, don’t need any WMC integration. I RDP into my server, so would just want to be able to check it if necessary, strictly as a precaution if anything were to ever happen. what are some of the free ones???
Mike GarcenParticipantwhat is your objective? strictly to backup 1-for-1? or are you looking to minimize the size of DVDs? Tough to go wrong with AnyDVD HD which can rip DVD & Blu-rays in folder or ISO format. I have a few BD’s ripped, but the size makes me definitely question it before i do so. you have to really like a movie to invest 30gb

there’s no app i know of that will just play a movie over and over again
Actually, most standalone players do this… including Windows Media Player (at least v12 does).
Yeah, when you’re playing the video, just right click and select “Repeat”
Sorry, i mixed up my memory of the more common request to have a SERIES of Videos play over and over again. My apologies, thanks George.
Mike GarcenParticipantthere’s no app i know of that will just play a movie over and over again, your best bet here is just to use window media player and create a playlist with the same movie several times.
i haven’t changed from my review, even two years later, although most of those apps have had some nice improvements, My Movies is still my cup of tea. THe points works to allow some of the special features, such as backdrop images and dvd ripping, and some others.

That Laptop should have a the old style video out that a lot of TVs have for connecting to a PC. But I would start at the TV First and work back. So get a TV with the providers she wants. Hulu, Netflix…
Well, moreso than streaming she has a lot of media (music and movies) on an external hard drive. So will most of these App-enabled TV’s have a player that supports plugging that in & playing?
Mike GarcenParticipantso no problem with various codecs and video files and audio files for the samsung to recognize?
