I don’t think I like this forum. I’m way too tempted to purchase most of the stuff we share. Between this and ekotz my wife will kill be sooner than later
mikinhoParticipantThe pass-through does give better performance but network tuner setup is easier.
If you do use the network-tuner model then bridge it with an internal or private virtual network work so there is no risk of latency from the network.
mikinhoParticipant+1 for the DH67DL. It is my primary HTPC as well. I considered the DH61AG as well as I really like that board but I needed 1 more SATA port that it provided.
mikinhoParticipantDepends on your Hypervisor product. Do you know what you’ll be using? Windows backup can do guest backups for Hyper-V andor you can take snapshots.
mikinhoParticipantThe Intel issue was only with the Intel 320. I still recommend Intel over any other brand. If your primary concern is stability you could go for an Enterprise SSD SLC drive but they are ridiculously expensive.
I’ve had several Intel X25-M running 24/7 for years w/o issue. I’ve had a 1st generation Samsung SSD running for ~4 years as well w/o issue though I don’t recommend it. I take most horror stories w/ a grain a salt.
mikinhoParticipantI agree. Keep your InfiniTV installed locally unless are splitting the tuners up and your “primary” HTPC is set to sleep and don’t want to mess with WoL.
mikinhoParticipantDepending on when you last checked there was also a hotfix for WHS 2011 dealing with slow transfer speeds. I’ll see if I find it….at least I believe there was.
mikinhoParticipantCan you PM me your ticket # and I’ll take a look at it.
mikinhoParticipantGlad I could help. And thanks for inadvertently having me think about trying TVersity Server (I have never used it before). I picked up a Logitech Revue as well but I haven’t really used it yet, I’ll give TVersity a go and see how the family likes GTV.
mikinhoParticipant1- Open Control PanelNetwork and InternetNetwork Connections
2- Hit Alt to show the menu
3- Under Advanced menu hit Advanced Settings
4- Under Connections move the network card that corresponds to the ATI DCT below your real network card (which should be at the top of the list)
Should work then.
mikinhoParticipantThe HP ProCurve is a solid switch. What model 1910 did you get? the -48 and -24 I’ve used and have had no issues with. The -16 I read of a couple firmware issues but that is probably fixed already.
The Linksys E4200 I’m not a big fan of but at the same time there aren’t any consumer routers I really like. The few people I know with a Linksys E4200 are happy with them.
In terms of your Intel NICs….not all Intel NICs are equal. For instance the Intel PRO/1000 GT PCI is crap.
mikinhoParticipantThere are some parts of our forum that isn’t very intuitive, we are working on improving over the next few weeks.
mikinhoParticipantIf you click on your username and then hit the Track tab.
mikinhoParticipantIt is my favorite Open Source NAS product. I’m a big fan of FreeBSDOpenBSD, my routers are pfSense.
I prefer FreeNAS over unRAID for instance because the network performance was better in my testing on the same hardware. unRAID has a nicer UI and more applications for it but I don’t care about either feature. My only concerns were stability and performance. For a NAS I really like ZFS.
Edit: I can post a real PROCON later when I have more time 🙂
mikinhoParticipantI just re-read your post. Be weary w/ teaming on WHS. WHS v1 and WHS 2011 both have issues with teamed adapters. I haven’t tested since first week of RTM but at the time teaming killed performance. During RC it would BSOD it. I don’t know what is different in the network stack compared to 2008 R2 but something is.
