DirecTV it does but not Dish.

This is where my speculation comes in…that perhaps DTV was cooperative but Dish wasn’t due to Project Draco not being released and ongoing work with Project Snowbird

Yeah maybe I’m missing it, but WMC has always just had a list of providers and it downloaded EPG data (provided by Tribune).

I think what you are missing is that Media Center does not have Dish Network EPG for Digital Cable tuners.  Media Center’s EPG coverage is lacking when it comes to satellite, DVB-S, etc.., providers.

It works independantly of any STB you might have. So what’s the deal with caring about Dish’s own satelite receiver GUI/EPG?

No one ever said anything about their own GUIEPG.  It is cumbersome for users to have to use a 3rd party tool to import their guide lineup into Media Center.

So none of the Intel core i5 or i7 quad core’s have video onboard?
Correct.  The fastest Intel Core with HD Video is the Core i5-680

I just wanted to be clear that Dish works fine with the HD-PVR despite the Hauppauge user guide stating otherwise.  The MCE channel guide just has to be set up using GuideTool after installation to get the guide data to populate.  It only has to be done once at time of setup.  I have been using these Native drivers now for months and it is perfect with respect to working with Dish.

The user guide never states it doesn’t work, just that it isn’t supported natively.  That is also why in my blog I state “native support for Dish Network electronic program guide (EPG).”

My only two problems are the “weak signal” and slow channel change, which according to Mikinho, may have been addressed.

I actually got my first weak signal message about an hour ago.  Still a big improvement and that could have easily been a weak-signal.

What’s the link between Hauppauge and Niveus’s project snowbird?
None.  I’m only speculating that a reason why Dish hasn’t worked to get their EPG in Media Center is due to the cancelled [s]failed[/s] tuner project.  That instead, they have vested interested in Project Snowbird.

I thought it was going to be yesterday but it didn’t quite work out.  It will be soon but can’t give an exact date.  When it is published I’ll have the next part 4-5 business days later (not 4-5 weeks).

Is your Atom dual core?  That makes it better.  But does it work with Hulu?  What about with Silverlight?

Yes ,dual core w/ hyperthreading (i.e. 4 threads).  I would never recommend a non-dual core.  I would urge anyone looking at an Atom system to wait for until the D525 is used more on SSF devices, it is a the first 2nd generation Atom that offers a decent speed improvement.  I’m a big fan of the D510 for low-powered server usage and routers but the D525 does a better job for mini-HTPCs.

But all of the dual core AtomsIon combinations work great with both Hulu and Silverlight.  With higher rate Blu-ray rips you’ll tend to see some issues though.

While that’s true – the problem is that the stated goals are bizarre given product timing that they should have known about.  I don’t think it’s possible for them to have picked a worse time to build that box; had they waited a month (or two) significantly cheaper/better hardware would have been available as well as nVidia’s HDMI 1.4 driver.  Anyone who follows their guidance to achieve similar objectives and doesn’t do some homework will be completely screwed.
