September 20, 2010 at 12:04 pm in reply to: Review: Ceton InfiniTV 4 Quad CableCARD Tuner – Part I #27253
Good news and bad news.
Bad: The DVBLink Server Network Pack is not compatible with CableCARD tuners.
Good: In a future firmware release (no ETA that I know of) the functionality will essentially be natively included with the InfiniTV4 via network bridging and tuner splitting (i.e. assign different tuners on the InfiniTV4 to different computers).
More Good: Part 2 of the review will be published this week.
September 19, 2010 at 5:10 am in reply to: Re: Niveus Media Discontinues Consumer High End Media Center PC #1117I agree that you and just about any enthusiast can build the internal hardware but the chassis isn’t cheap to manufacturer. To create a single (i.e. not in bulk) high quality faceplate for a rack mountable chassis would easily cost $600 alone.

Why wouldn’t you want to use a UPS with power conditioning features built in?
For the same quality of power conditioning it seems like you pay a little over double, if not more.

Bigee, if I remember correctly from an old post you work for APC. For a plasma do you think the extra features of the AV line are worth it since no other equipment would be used?
Note: While I understand you can’t speak for your company if do you work for them, it does imply a certain higher knowledge base =)

The Line-R 1200VA would work very well and it is priced very reasonable.
Edit: Changed from 600VA unit to 1200VA but depending on your TV set the 600VA may be enough. For the small price difference the 1200VA seems like the smarter purchase.

A simple surge for the TV is enough but one with a line conditioner would be better.

I would do #1 and #3 personally. The dedicated line is nice but the whole home surge protector should accomplish the same thing and have extra benefits for other devices.
My ideal setup if I had the budget for it (I don’t) would be the Panamax M5400-PM + MIW-POWERKIT-PRO which is complete overkill but I like Panamax products.
