The only thing you’ll lose is bitstreaming HD audio formats. Since you are going HDMI – TV – SPDIF – AVR doesn’t sound like that matters to you.
So you shouldn’t lose anything at all. When the the G / GT series card were first released they did have some colorspace issues but they have been resolved.
The GTX 470 is definitely overkill for HTPC but for gaming and Flash based content it will perform better.

What ATI card do you currently have? Do you want audio over HDMI as well?
I recommend taking a look at our Guide:Bit Streaming HDMI HD Audio and from if you provide your current ATI card we can make suggestions from there.

August 23, 2010 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Re: Blog: Getting your Ceton InfiniTV 4 this week? Some hints to #486I believe you’ll need to allow two programs:
1- “Digital TV Tuner device registration application” (%SystemRoot%ehomeehPrivJob.eve)
2- “Host Process for Windows Services” (%SystemRoot%System32svchost.exe)
And the below ports
– Incoming UDP: 5001-5006, 1900
– Outgoing UDP: 5757-5772, 1900
– Incoming TCP: 2869
– Outgoing TCP: 2869, 554
If you have need tuning adapters then you may need to allow additional ones.
For most users I recommend sticking with the native firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials.

August 17, 2010 at 8:54 pm in reply to: Re: Review: Ceton InfiniTV 4 Quad CableCARD Tuner – Part I #330The E8400 is plenty powerful enough. I consider the 2GB too little but others will argue.
Will you be using the HTPC console session or solely extenders? If I have my console + 2 extenders in use my memory utilization ranges from 2.8 GB to 3.6 GB. The console session’s ehshell.exe takes up almost double of what an extender session uses so if you aren’t planning on using the console session (i.e. the HTPC is headless) then you may get by.

With MakeMKV you have a 1 click solution but it isn’t compressed and MKV playback works n extenders but the playback and playback controls are not as fluid as native formats.

I can’t commit to a specific day but Part 2 will be published this week.
