I believe all providers require you to activate the CableCARDs. Verizon FiOS customers only need to activate it, after that it can be used with any Host without re-pairing. Comcast, Charter and TWC, as far as I know, require pairing between the CableCARD and Host (the tuner device).
Report back and let us know though!

I simply told them I had a CableCARD I needed paired with a corresponding Host ID. That I had the serial number, CableCARD ID and Host ID available. The CableCARD ID was not needed though.

Ok….that isn’t my system. Nor could I afford the monthly electricity bill to keep that thing running.
For those that didn’t recognize the screenshot, check out Mark Russinovich’s technical blog. A very good writer and even better developer (yes I am a nerd and enjoy reading development books)

August 11, 2010 at 7:32 pm in reply to: Re: Review: Ceton InfiniTV 4 Quad CableCARD Tuner – Part I #298You’ll want to check out the Win7 HTPC client: 32 bit or 64 bit? thread.
I’m in favor of 64-bit for Windows Media Center based HTPCs. The extra memory is used by Extenders (250MB – 800MB per extender) and the WMP library will benefit from the extra RAM for large collections.

August 11, 2010 at 5:24 pm in reply to: Re: Review: Ceton InfiniTV 4 Quad CableCARD Tuner – Part I #292And there are two bits of software installed with the Ceton drivers:
1- Ceton InfiniTV Tuning Adapter service. This can safely be disabled or uninstalled if you do not need tuning adatpers.
2- Ceton InfiniTV Diagnostic. I did not include a mention of the Ceton InfiniTV Diagnostic in Part 1 as the final version was not available yet.
Neither software or related drivers require 4GB of RAM. The requirement is part of the DCA.
