        Odd, it shouldn’t.  I’ll test tonight.  By chance when this happens are there SRT files in the same folder as the video file?

        Some have SRT files in the same folder. Does this change the default action of open with…such as if the folder has .SRT then openwith…and since I did not configure a player for the MP4 extension then I get that message?

          I can help there.  Save the below as a reg file and import it.  That or apply the registry keys yourself

          Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

          [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMikinhoOpenWithVideo.mkv]
          "FileName"="C:Program Files (x86)ArcSoftTotalMedia Theatre 5uMCEPlayer5.exe"
          "Arguments"=""{0}""

          Thanks, this is a cool approach. For whatever reason whether I imported the registry key through regedit or double clicked the reg file it would not generate the FileName key attribute, but I was able to manually add the uMCEPlayer5.exe path in regedit. A few observations:

          • I get the openwith config warning on filetypes that I did not assign to openwith, such as MP4…native playback still happens, but I have to click “OK” on the openwith message, so do I need to assign the default media player in 7MC (I don’t know what path that is) to avoid that message?
          • MKV defaults most of the time to TMT5, but after stopping and resuming or opening another MKV, native playback opens it up instead of TMT5.
          • I also tried using WMPx86 to launch, but that did not play nicely in terms of closing down when wanting to get back into 7MC.

          Still messing around, but enjoy the knowledge seeing how openwith works. Thanks minkinho!

            Quick update on this, I know this is an older post but as everyone knows the new dashboard for xbox 360 was released on Monday.   ESPN on the xbox wont stream live content or display full events if you have Time Warner ISP/Cable.  I did a little searching around, ESPN and Timewarner are working together to make this work.  However ESPN on the xbox 360 requires you to have digital cable subscription plus Time warner internet to view any of the full events on your xbox.  I tested out some of the short clips yesterday and the quality is quite impressive when compared to ESPN3’s  website.

            I figured as much as I only have TWC internet service.  I thought they might use some hardware restrictions for web access and filter the internet content that way, however, for web access to ESPN3 you need to use a login (which you sign up for through TW with your billing info, hence tying a digital cable subscription to ESPN3 access).  So since its more that just an ISP filter, I’m not sure how the XBOX360 interface will work unless Msoft changes something on their end, like requiring a login, or TW decided to open in up even to non-digital cable subscribers.

            Moving forward, what is preventing TW from blocking access to TNT or USA network websites (for example) with TV online content unless you have a TV package that would allow you to see that programming?

            It doesn’t matter what the level is in Media Center when using digital out.  The actual volume of the sound is going to be the same regardless of the number Media Center displays.  Unless you do hit the mute button, then of course the sound will mute.

            Via HDMI audio out I also notice that the windows volume mixer does allow you to control various sources outputting concurrently, e.g. turn down 7MC and play something streaming in a browser.
