From the 1st review off Amazon “Otherwise, it will process a 2-channel sound into “fake” 5.1 rather than the separation that is intended on the disc” So it sounds like it’s upconverting the Netflix stereo stream into a fake 5.1 signal. You’d be better off doing a stereo signal from your computer and putting your receiver in Dolby ProLogic mode.
oliverredfoxParticipantBesides PS3, I recall seeing some Blu-ray Players and WDLive+ can do Netflix with 5.1 now. But PCs are still stuck with stereo. (Part of it had to do with a flaw with Silverlight only doing stereo. SRS made it possible to do 5.1 late last year, but haven’t seen much about it since then.)
oliverredfoxParticipantIf anyone picks this up, I’d love to hear what you think of the GoogleTV functions from a HTPC user perspective. I wonder if it has any functions that would get used day-to-day or if it would be like DLNA on my living room TV that goes untouched.
oliverredfoxParticipantI signed up for google music when it first opened, still waiting for my invite to get sent. I wonder how long until we’ll see plugins for MCE, XBMC, or others to access them. I don’t need that access for my own music at home, but it’d be awesome to have guests over and let them type in account info and start playing their music off my home setup.

i looked it up and it was the 75GXP line that had all the problems. I think they did have a 75GB model, but I remember it being the 30GB models that were notoriously bad.

Heh, that’s pretty bad that they screwed up an entire line of hard drives of all sizes. I only recall the 75GB being bad cause I went through 6 or 7 of them over couple weeks and eventually the store I got it from upgraded me to a 100GB to keep from coming back. That was the first and last time I used a Deskstar until the 2TB Hitachi.
oliverredfoxParticipantIt was the Deathstar 75GB that that was notoriously bad. My experience with that drive was far from pleasant.
oliverredfoxParticipantThat’s not bad, just for reference, a couple months ago I snagged a 1080p Samsung PN50C675 off Slickdeals for $780 which also came with 2pairs of 3D glasses.
oliverredfoxParticipantI’m not sure where it would in the logs, but if you reboot and force the issue you should be able to get an error code out of the device manager itself. (assuming it’s the same in Windows 7 as was in older builds, haven’t had the yellow ! under 7 yet.)
oliverredfoxParticipantAnd it bugs out on all your USB ports?
oliverredfoxParticipantProbably not applicable, but do you use the default video/audio codec for TV playback or did you change them to ATI/PowerDVDs/etc?
oliverredfoxParticipant*drool* You and Mike are both teasing me with all the cool toys under this deal forum. If only I had more mad money to play with. Although, at that price point, I’d be more tempted to pick up high end projector and pull one of my screens out of storage.
oliverredfoxParticipantAw well, it was worth the try. I hope you can get your few tweaks up and running quickly. Pretty cool how your HTPC is quieter than your TV.
oliverredfoxParticipantThey need to build a store in San Diego or start offering their good deals for shipping.

The big concern without doing a clean install will be that all the drivers get redone. When the system tries to redo the Northbridge/Southbridge drivers will be potential choke point. Your power management, PCI controllers, memory controller, IDE/SATA controllers, etc are all going to change. I have read about people successfully getting Windows 7 (and older builds of Windows) to work afterwards. I’ve also known it to result in systems that appear to work but are unstable and have data corruption. I’ll be curious how your attempt works and hope it goes on the good side.
oliverredfoxParticipantGood luck. =) Be sure to backup your show setting and stuff first, if it goes sideways during the attempt you may have a hard time pulling anything off the SSD afterwards. Let us know what happens.
