PAPutzbackSpectator
According to Arcsoft the switch to TV from flat panel caused my problem. I’ll see tonight.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI don’t think the error has anything to do with WHS. Most likely the installer. I’d focus my search on that. I’ve seen this happen a dozen times with all sorts of installations.
It could be the installer doesn’t have rights to the folder because of some registry error, something marked a folder read only, a service not running, service won’t start…
You might check the event viewer also to see if it gave a more detailed error.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI tried everything in that thread and now I have the blue bars on all 4 sides and along with vertical blacks bars on the side of the video within the blue border. This only happens when the video doesn’t freeze and lock the system.
I’m on the path now to find that app that allows me to back up my recording settings and do a reinstall since it is all boogered up.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI’ll check that thread out. I must have missed something because I remember changing my projection TV to the TV setting. This weekend was probably the first time I played a BD since. I’ll make the registry changes tonight and see if that works. Thanks.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI am not sure which of the variables I changed but Netflix is lag free now.
I made Mikinho’s changes to the NIC to point to Google DNS servers.
I went back to using an Intel NIC instead of the onboard realtek. That fixed my bluray lag also.
And Netflix was updated just like the XBOX interface was last week. I am not sure if they did something behind the scenes but covers show up within a second of starting the app and also when I stop a stream I don’t get lag when it goes to the remove from que, resume, restart screen.

Home Group helps (in the Win7 shell), but I find the My Movies scanner usually screws something up if you leave it to autoscan — I seem to always end up with duplicate titles in the database and other oddities. As a result, I turn it off, and maintain the titles myself.

I never had trouble with MM until the latest version 3.19 4 maybe… When I rebuilt my WHS I let it monitor all my movies folders and then disabled it. Then I went through and deleted all the dupes. And I manually add my TV series and other box sets since I can’t find definitive instructions on how to set that up when you have ripped DVD into Video_ts folders and not individual episodes ripped into a structure like TVSeriesFriendsS1E1.
PAPutzbackSpectatorFrom what I saw with the WHS backup is that it uses a local drive and a VHD to backup the files. If I have some disaster that destroys that box I am hosed. Synctoy allows you to synch up across a network and there are no special needed to use the remote data.
I’m debating on working with a friend who has a WHS to see if he is interested in making backups between our two WHS so the data is offsite.
The drive pooling was a good idea in the beginning but over time I’ve seen the downfalls several times and when you have to shuffle terabytes of data around from a failing drive or something hoses the WHS GUI and you lose the ability to remove a drive from a pool you’ll wish you stuck with simple shares that can be pulled out and read in another system easily.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI plan on setting up the Google DNS settins when I get home. I remember trying them in the past and it has sped up loading some pages.
PAPutzbackSpectatorThe silverlight interface for the PC is just crappy. It lags on my 6 core gaming box the same as my HTPC with the ATIAMD 3200 and a 3ghz dual core. Yet the video plays fine.
Yet the interface is snappy on my XBOX 360 and Wii and I know the hardware in those machines is not as powerful as the PCs.
I’ve just learned to not get impatient as mash the back button, otherwise when it catches up it starts flipping back all the way to the start screen.
My guess is it is a silverlight coding or network issue. It seems to recache the account everytime I go back to the main netflix screen, reload my que, box covers, title suggestions. It should be able to cache that in the background.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI created 3 folder pairs and have synctoy scheduled to sync around 4am. I think I’ll take a look at Flickr also so I have an offsite backup.
Thanks for the tips.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI just downloaded it now. Once my manual sync is done I will set it up.
Thanks,
Phil
PAPutzbackSpectatorI would think the price difference between 500gb and 1tb would be so close that the 1tb would be the better deal.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI wasn’t sure what the differences were between homegroup and libraries and I disabled it a long time ago. And I was surprised that when WHS installed it recommened libraries even though homegroup was in the list of options.
I don’t know if I can switch to a homegroup setup now that I have the WHS installed.
Thanks for the media index path. I’ll delete that when I get home. For some reason I can’t remote in because I don’t have the latest activeX remote libraries installed and when I try to install them I get an error that the windows installer is not running. I checked and it is so it might be a group policy thing here at my work.
PAPutzbackSpectatorI use the original MS MCE keyboard with thumbstick. As long as the IR receiver is in a good location I have never had any trouble with it. I’ve also used my EVO (Android) phone with Gmote to control it also.
I wish another company would make a MS MCE keybaord like device in a smaller package. Perhaps that is the DiNovo. But I seem to always miss the sale and when I look it is up around 120. I need to set a price alert on it.
PAPutzbackSpectatorGreat video. I checked my MM3 settings and my movie boxes in the horizontal row settings don’t have that 3d effect where the movies sit at an angle until selected. Is that setting available with more points?
