I have several AMD coolers laying around since I always get the OEM package. I can take a picture of the two I have if they are different and send you whichever one you want.

Don’t get me started. They should have just ended the series when Pauly and Christopher shot the Russian out in the woods and were stuck eating eat ketchup packets.

There is an app floating around the handles the PCs sleep settings that I use. I don’t know what the gain is with using hibernate over sleep is but with an SSD and W7 my machine is live within a second or two.

Someone at MSDN responded. It appears that if a drive is failing the system will kick the transfer mode of the drive to PIO from DMA. Uninstalling the driver for my secondary channel and rebooting has seemed to fix the problem. I am still testing now. I kind of need that error to kick in again so I know which drive to toss.

I believe I do have a green drive in there but the fact that this machine has worked flawlessly for a long time and there haven’t been any updates to the machine leads me to believe the drive is not the issue. And I have 4 to 5 drives in there. I might fire off the chkdsk scrip again and see if it completes this time through.

My guess is that the service pack had an update drive for something that was causing issues. But I know your frustration, my WHS is driving me nucking futs.

Another thing I found out. I can read off the drive pool fine. So it comes down to writing is the only issue.

So I fired off a checkdisc script that is supposed to unmount all te discs and scan them. It has been running about 11 hours now. So while this was running I shared out one of the two backup drives and I was able to copy files to that shared with no problem about 45+MB from my SSD setup and 25 from my RAID 0 system.

So I know it isn’t a NICrouter, switch cabling issue. It has to be something with the JBOD system that WHS used. I’ve tried it with the demigrator service off and on.

The console says the drives are healthy. Perhaps when this chkdsk is done it will tell me something.

File access only. MyMovies runs on it. That might be annoying if that slowed down. From what I am reading I’ve seen a few builds with it at the MSDN forums and they have seen the file transfer slow down issues that I am getting on my current system.

It might be time to sell it while it can still be used for media playback.

I believe all have a static IP. I’ll double check. I rebooted the router earlier and will probably do the same with all my switches later also.

I am running a six core 1055 proc. I know I have speed covered. I think something is buggy on my network. I’ll be starting a new thread trying to figure that issue out.

That spaces part gives me an idea. Can I get a dump of the entire thread in one text file.

I think if you parsed every word into a column and then did something like:

Select word, count (word) as TimesRepeated

WHERE word not in (SELECT word from CommonWords)

                                FROM Word

                                group by word

                                ORDER BY count (word) Asc

So the main reason is a lifespan issue. I am ok with that and everything I have read on the Web and TGB seems like a lot of people have gone this route.

                                  My experiment

So I went and moved my recording drive to my C drive which had about 50 gig available. It is a Kingston SSD. An older one with out the speeds of the Vertex.

I fired up every tuner (6) I had and they all worked fine. About the time I got to scheduling the sixth recording the guide was a little laggy. Anyways, the recordings worked great. Once in the guide, channel switching, ffd, rrw and skipping was smoother than it ever has been. No artifacts while watching any of them while they were recording.

But the strange thing was that when I changed my recorded tv to my SSD it told me I had only 3 hours of TV available. Well I knew that I could easily fit close to 7 or 8 hours based on the worse case I have seen of 7.5 Gigs per hour.

So towards the end of the hour I chose another six hours to record. The guide gave me the little yellow icon telling me there would not be enough space. But they all started to record and about a half our into it with 30 gig of space the system started popping up an error for each show and cancelled the recording due to lack of space. What gives? I noticed two of the shows had moved off to WHS. So that is a plus, knowing that they move soon after they stop recording.

So now it comes down to why did WMC stop recording with 30 gig of space left.

When I get that HDPlex case I am planning on putting the OS and programs on a 40gig drive and then I’ll use the 120 gig Kingston for recording. I think with access to the full drive I should not run into that huge buffer requirement and it will have enough space to work with while it moves files off to WHS.

                                  Hopefully.
