Hello Aaron,
Don’t worry so much about the FiOS equipment. Not sure it is worth the trouble. Unless you recommend otherwise I may just purchase the units reviewed here on MR. MR and other reviews are very favorable. The operate about the 1GHz frequency and are MoCA v1.1, too. Only concern I have is the network security you mentioned. I don’t want to chance someone accessing my network via this. They do mention the ability for data encryption, but then go on to say this is not available to the consumer.
SJMayeHi Swoon,
I will try MoCA as it is my only real option. Can you tell me if the devices used by FIOS are suitable to use or should I just get the Actiontec version?
SJMayeOn the Actiontec MoCA- Just need some clarification.
- Need one unit at the router. Then I need one at each of my Linksys DMA2100s?
- Any other hardware or splitters?
- I see some of these units under the Verizon FIOS brand name. Can these be used as well?
- Is there another brand of this ethernet over coax I should be considering?
- Where is best place to buy? I need enough for about 4 media center extenders.

SJMayeThat is what I was wanting to know. Too bad wireless is still not a effective, but the other over-wire solutions sound really good. I will give them a try.
Thanks for all the replies!
SJMayeWebsite told me that too. Forums said disregard the website. Mine worked fine.
SJMayeI bought TMT5 and had similar issues. Read their forums. Their newest release fixed me.
Beware- It appeared on their site they were going to charge me to download the latest release for TMT5 even though I had just bought it. It was not the case. Read their forums about the most recent release. It will spell it out for you.
SJMayeI called Time Warner Cable yesterday. Channels 1-99 are analog. The rest are digital and encrypted. This is why my hotel tv has nothing over channel 99. They said they do install cable cards and they use tuning adapters here. How many tuning adapters will be needed for the Ceton InfiniTV 4?
SJMayeTalking about a loaded topic?! Remotes are a matter of what you want to do and personal choice. If all you are going to do is use the Win 7 MC functions then I would recommend the Microsoft branded MC remote. This has not been made for a few years, but if you watch ebay you can find them. Since the are becoming rare the prices are going up, but I still manage to find them for about $10 + shipping from time to time.
Here it is. Note the button on the top left. That is the button to turn off your TV. That is unique to the Microsoft original. This remote can be programmed to turn on/off your tv and control your TV volume.

Now here is the look alike. Note there is no TV on/off button. Still does all the MC functions, but you cannot program to control your TV.

SJMayeThanks, Michael. I was the OP on your referenced link. I tried creating my own, but did not work correctly. I am on the road, but will try this when i get home.
I saw the other poster asking about changing processing time. If this creates a scheduled task does it mean i can find the task in task scheduler and change the time it is performed?

The entries will affect all of WMC. If you’re concerned, just export the folder from regedit before making the changes and then reverting is as simple as double-clicking the .reg file you created.

Thanks Aaron. I will give it a try and report back.
SJMaye[quote=Aaron Ledger]
Sure. Give them a try. Just make a backup (Export) of the registry folder with the entries if you want to revert.

I had issues on BD playback in TMT5 that I finally got resolved. Now I want to fix the borders. I reverted my tv selection back to the correct rear projection tv. Below is the post showing the registry changes. Everything in Media Center looks and plays great now. Will these changes only affect TMT5?

To push the UI elements back out to the corners after getting rid of overscan, you can modify the registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionMedia CenterSettingsMCE.PerUserSettings]
“marginLeft”=dword:00000000
“marginTop”=dword:00000000
“marginRight”=dword:00000000
“marginBottom”=dword:00000000
“marginSaved”=dword:00000001
“useDefaultOverscanMargins”=dword:00000000
All this does is move the UI elements back to the corners.

Can you spell SPAM?
SJMayeI periodically get an erroneous message about copy restricted, but it still records correctly anyway so I ignore it. Can you tell me how I would know how to answer “Copy Proctection” without just calling the cable company?
SJMayeJust checked. No change. Nothing after December 26 at 6pm (I think).
