Is there any other pattern besides always on CBS? Is it the same programming material that causes it or is it random?
I have not noticed a pattern lately, but will keep an eye out. I mostly watch CBS, but this has happened on other channnels.
Are you using HDMI from your HTPC to the TV? I am trying to track down this issue to see if it correlates to HDMI EDID handshake issues.

-Josh
Yes, HDMI connection to TV. I can see how it could stop you from viewing, but cannot see how HDMI would stop a recording.
Also, do you have navigation sounds enabled in WMC? If so, turn them off.
Yes, navigation sounds are on. Why turn them off?
SJMayeLet me bump this one. Doesn’t anyone else have the blue border on TMT3? I could not find any setting to eliminate. Can the picture be expanded to fill?
SJMayeThe Netflix plugin is still back to normal, but I now have had two lockups at the end of shows. The picture freezes and the HTPC refuses to respond to any commands. Even CTRL+ALT+DEL. I had to do forced shutdowns in both cases. In both cases it was at the end where I was fast forwarding through the credits to the very end of the program.

You are correct that the PC will decode the Dolby soundtrack. With the speakers you selected, the PC should be configured to downmix to stereo.
Understood. I had considered some of those Logitech USB Z-Cinema speakers, but I read a number of posts on the Logitech forum. Enough to scare me. Thus looking at the Z-623.
SJMaye
I thought you were interested in Dolby Digital? The Logitech speakers are stereo so there is no benefit or point in worrying about Dolby.
OK, Aaron, now you are finding out how little I know in yet another area . I assumed the MB GA-P55A-UD3 by Gigabyte would do the decoding and I would connect out to this speaker set. If I do not use a digital connection is there no way to get Dolby?
Speakers on my TV bite. Don’t want 5-7 speakers, but would like some decent sound for movies. I am not heading the right direction?

The driver, or some setting (when applied by the driver) in CCC could easily cause an issue like this.
Things were working with no issues on 11.8. I think I will try going back. Thx for the input.
SJMayeI was probably wrong. I get confused between CCC and just the video drivers. I am just trying to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling CCC. Would rather not be tweaking with settings again.
Could CCC or the video driver be causing this glitch?
SJMayeResurrecting this one as I am close to a decision and could use a few more pointers.
Analog “TV Out” is stereo only so can’t use that. The device connected to the TV is the MC HTPC. So no switching of inputs or devices. I will be connecting the rear panel on the motherboard using analog connections.
I don’t want the hassle with all the speakers of a 5.1 or 7.1 system and the associated wiring.
I think a 2.1 speaker system will be fine. I was considering the Logitech Z-623. Any thoughts on it or could you recommend another?
Yes. What does SP1 have to do with it?
There was a similar issue with 7MC that was fixed in SP1. It primarily affected Intel GPUs, but I’ve also heard reports of that issue occasionally repro’ing on other platforms.
This is a fresh install of Win7. It may have been there all along, but I simply cannot remember seeing it. It would make sense that it could be related to the GPU as the drivers have changed. Is there a way to find out with changing drivers?
SJMayeStrange thing is I did nothing and it is back to normal as of last night.
SJMayeI have not found the ideal situation yet. Even with the great Harmony One remote it was nice, but I wanted to same remote for all TVs in the house since they were all on Media Center. So I opted to buy a bunch of the original MS Media Center remotes. I think they are the best remote out there for a media center only environment. SIMPLE. My wife loves that the number of buttons are minimized. You can simply do all you need while in MC.
For doing things outside MC I used a full media center keyboard for a long time. I find the nub control of the cursor slow and painful and handling the big keyboard is cumbersome. I noted one day most of the time I am not typing at all. I just needed to point and click most of the time. This is how I landed on the little Lenovo. It serves the point and click need very well. Fits perfectly in the palm of my hand.

Well I happy to say, for a change, it is not just me 🙂

II generally never use the WU drivers.
Wondered about that myself. Will do the same in the future.
SJMayeThere are plenty of options out there. IR/RF/Bluetooth. This site is an excellent resource for reviews on them. Check reviews. In my experience it would be helpful to separate the need for a full fledged media center keyboard/mouse and just the need to point and click. I only use my MS media center keyboard when I need to type. Most the time I am only pointing and clicking, though. I use this Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard N5901 http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Multimedia-Remote-Keyboard-N5901/dp/B0036VO67I
and love the trackball. Far better mousemovements it is far easier than the media center keyboard. They even have a model now that has a backlit keyboard which is the only deficiency with my model.
Seriously, check out this site. Here is just one http://www.missingremote.com/review/iogear-gkm571r-24-ghz-multimedia-mini-keyboard. But there are more of them reviewed here.
SJMayeInteresting. This is a AMD Radeon HD 5670. Either way I need to do more testing to narrow down when it does and does not occur. May help diagnose.
Everything works OK, just an annoyance.
